Their Captivated Bride (Bridgewater Menage Series Book 4)

“When it was three against one, I was always going to be overwhelmed.”

The Bridgewater way of two men marrying one woman is uncommon in the Montana territory. But three men marrying one woman? That is unheard of, especially for beautiful Olivia Weston. Her fate, it seems, will have her married to one man – a man she doesn’t love.

But when her betrothed treats her in a cruel manner, she rejects him and not long afterwards catches the eye of three handsome and virile ranchers. Cross, Rhys and Simon are as different as three men can be. But they have one thing in common; they are determined to offer Olivia the protection of marriage and the promise of endless carnal pleasures.

Olivia worries that her instant attraction and hasty agreement to marry three men stems from a defect in her character. What kind of woman not just love three men, but make the most intimate parts of herself available to their lustful attention? The chemistry between them is like lightning. Can she deny it? Or will Olivia submit to become the most sated Bridgewater wife in this ongoing ménage series?

THEIR CAPTIVATED BRIDE (Bridgewater Mènage Series Book 4)
Vanessa Vale
Olivia is pressured by the vile Peters who wants to marry her for her future inheritance. She rebuffs him. She meets Rhys and Scott at a dance. Lightening! Just as her uncle had promised. But for BOTH? That night a burning bottle of whiskey is thrown into the house she shares with her uncle. Rhys and Cross bring a third friend when they come to help. Her uncle agrees she must leave, for protection from Peters, and when he hears they are from Bridgewater, he gladly grants his niece's hand to Simon full knowing it will be a Bridgewater marriage. Olivia is speechless. Editor a "blissfully" should be a "blessedly" short ceremony. And "clamored" up the stairs, should be "clambered." "Supply" should be "supple." "greasy" should be "queasy." Despite these glaring oversights, I enjoyed caring about our four likeable lovers.

Who knew three guys could satisfy one woman. Olivia has been told she will feel lightning when she meets the guy who is suppose to be hers. No one told her it couldn't happen more then once. She first meets Cross and Rhys at a dance and feels an Instant connection to them both. Her uncle who has raised her shares a secret with her. She meets the third lightning bolt later that night Simon. These books are Hot and way too short.

This is the best one so far in the series. While they have all been good, I really liked this one. The storyline is great and very interesting to read. A man who has been showing Olivia attention has also shown her his violent side, she immediately rejects him and tells him so which, of course angers him even more. Fearing for her safely, her guardian uncle, arranges for her to marry an acquaintance from Bridgewater knowing she will be married to 3 men. Loved this story.

NOTE: I will mention that the editing could have been better. At one point the introduced a character named "Belinda" and several paragraphs later it became "Melinda" and then finally switched back to the original "Belinda". While this did not figure into my rating of 5 stars, it was and is very annoying when it happens. It needs to be fixed. I notice several other complained about this a few years and ago and yet it has not been corrected over 3 years later.

The Sunday Post #6

What are you thankful for?

This week was Thanksgiving here in the US. With the pandemic still going strong in so many parts of the world, most family celebrations looked a lot different from just a year ago. At least, I hope they did!

The large family gatherings for many people took place virtually. Others still gathered, but weather in their area permitting, moved outdoors. For some, they made the decision to take that risk and still gather together, but make sure to all wear their masks.

However you celebrated this year, I hope you remembered to give thanks for your blessings. If you’re reading this post, then give thanks that you are alive, you have internet access, and that you have the education that allows you to read.

If you had family gathered around you on Thursday, give thanks for each and everyone of them. Traveling today is still a risk and the last thing anyone wants is for their family to get sick because of them.

As I write this, I’m cleaning up the house after last night’s dinner with friends. It was only the four of us, but we still made a mess! Even so, I’m thankful that I can do things like this.

So, please take a minute and give thanks for everything you have.

Coming to the Blog

You may have noticed that some of the new posts have a featured image showing the book cover in a living room setting. I created those using Bryce, a software package that creates computer generated images. As things progress, I hope to use that more.

Also, I hope to include more cookbooks among my reviews. Some that I’m reviewing for Netgalley, others are from my own shelf. I hope you enjoy them!

Weekly Cup of Coco!

This little girl is one of the many things I’m thankful for. She came into our lives at a time when we really needed a little help. We hadn’t realized just how much Odie helped my husband’s health until he was gone. My husband’s blood pressure started rising until his doctor finally informed him that if we didn’t get another Emotional Support Animal (ESA), he would need to go on medicine that Craig really wasn’t going to like. Now, with Coco here, that isn’t a problem.

Scrooge Me Hard (Paranormal Dating Agency)

Aurelis Fuentes wants one thing: Children. She’d also like for people to stop complaining about the amount of frosting on her cupcakes but that’s another story. When her scrooge of an ex comes back into her life, she’s not sure what to think.

Reed Stone wants one thing: His mate back. He made a mistake but he’s a changed man. In the spirit of Christmas, he’s hoping she takes a chance and forgives him or at least allow him to explain without throwing things at him.

Gerri Wilder is at it again, only this time she’s got the help of some of our previous couples. Catch up with Tally, Nita, Maya, Alyssa and their men while they try to help Auri and Reed find their way back to each other. This is one holiday they won’t soon forget.

If there is one thing that bugs me the most about books/movies/TV shows, it’s that we never see what happened next. This story is what I call a “slice of life” in which we get to reconnect with couples from the previous books in the series, see what has been happening in their lives. Plus we get to meet a new couple. Aurelis and Reed are a wonderful couple, and it is great to see them getting a second chance at love.

Marked and Mated (Wayward Mates Book 2)

She ran from her mate. Now she must be punished.

Darby Callan doesn’t want a mate, but it isn’t up to her. Her old pack has been disbanded, and when the powerful, handsome alpha of a well-established pack makes it clear that she belongs to him, her instincts reveal the truth of his words despite her furious protests and attempts to escape.

Jean-Michel Gautier knows that his new mate’s past makes her wary of him, but an alpha cannot tolerate disobedience, and when Darby defies him he strips her bare and spanks her until she is sore and sobbing. Her beautiful body’s response to his dominance is obvious, and his stern correction leaves her helplessly aroused, but before he claims her he plans to make her beg.

Naked and quivering with desperate, shameful need, Darby cannot help pleading with Jean-Michel for the climax she has been denied, and soon she is crying out with pleasure more intense than she would have ever thought possible as he makes her his. But when the vicious brute who once hurt her comes looking for Darby again, can she trust her new alpha to protect his mate?

There were so many times that I just wanted to laugh at Darby. I totally understand the need to make sure your mate is strong enough to stand up to and for you. But I still could see the humor.

Canning Essentials: Jam-Packed with Essential Tools, Techniques, and Recipes for Fruits, Veggies, Jams, Pickles, Salsa, and More

Canning Essentials is a go-to beginner’s guide that will take you step-by-step through the different processes of canning fruit and produce. From canning vegetables, like tomatoes and squashes, to preparing homemade jam, salsas, relishes, and so much more, this book simplifies food preservation so that even today’s busiest people can find time to do it themselves. Emphasizing cost-saving and sustainable food safety, you’ll learn methods for both freezing, canning, pressure canning, and water-bath canning, then discover over 60 delicious recipes for homemade jelly, chutneys, pickles, and more. With helpful charts throughout to detail methods with specific timings, temperatures, and required equipment, this book will teach you everything you need to know about preserving and canning fruits and vegetables.

Full of useful information. The recipes are interesting and ones that I plan to try. I just wish that more of the recipes gave you some idea of the yield. It is very hard to make sure you have sufficient jars ready if you don’t know how much the recipe will yield. The Formatting in Kindle version was somewhat messy.

Having said that, I enjoyed the book enough to purchase a copy for my house.

This is a good solid book for a home canner. Especially if you are new to preserving foods.
There is discussion about freezing foods ( what you can and cannot ) along with how to do it.
As for the canning. She covers the supplies needed, helpful tips, how to pick and clean/prepare the item you are canning. Talks about things that can well and those that don't. Covers pressure canning vs. hot water bath canning.. And supplies many recipes.
A very good all round book

Too Much Too Bear: Paranormal Dating Agency

Boone Wayland was a shifter, a problem solver, and a protector, not always in that order. When he decided he wanted to find his mate, there was only one place to go… the Paranormal Dating Agency masterfully run by Gerri Wilder. He’d visited the website in the few minutes that he’d managed to wrest control of his computer from the teenaged shifters he fostered and read a number of her reviews… okay, all of the reviews. He contacted the Agency because it was the boys that he’d been thinking of.

Mostly.

Partly.

Okay, not really.

He wanted a mate.

Hungered to hold her to him, make her smile, lose himself in her eyes and her body for the rest of his life.

But, finding a mate when he had a store to run and a houseful of boys to raise made the traditional model of ‘dating’ nearly impossible.

It seemed like a Hail Mary pass one might make in a sporting game, but if there was one thing Boone didn’t have in his life it was time. So, he picked up the phone and asked Gerri for her special brand of help.

Willa Barnes wanted a family so bad she could almost taste it. The future would be as sweet as the fruit pies that she was known for at her boyfriend’s Diner, and it was all within her grasp.

But that was before Charlie ran off with the hostess at the diner, leaving Willa to watch the shop while he was on his honeymoon in Las Vegas.

Hearing her woeful story, her favorite customer has a crazy idea. It turns out he knows a matchmaker and that feisty matchmaker just might know the perfect man for Willa.

Only, he’s not just a man.

Willa’s fascinated by the idea of meeting a bear shifter, but it’s not just becoming a wife that’s the offer on the table. He’s got a whole bunch of teenaged shifters that are waiting for her too.

Is this ‘insta-family’ just what Willa wants or will the reality of it be Too Much to Bear?

I really really like this book! I like the fact that the author took the time to really develop the characters, to develop the scenes, and to develop the setting in which led to so much more for both the characters. I liked that she didn't automatically jumps them to having sex, but instead took their time to get to know each other. Often so many times in these paranormal books they have it where they just jump right into the sex which I'm perfectly greatly fine with. However, it's nice to know that at some point there are few human women who actually really just have learned so much from their prior relationships that they actually do really want to take the time to actually know the hot sexy guy on a mental level before they come to know him on a physical level. For me that was the real sweetness of the story and I love how it unfolded. I love how she came to love the boys even sooner than she came to love Boone. For me that was a sweetness in itself. I highly recommend this book!!

Another super quick read from an author I enjoy. I’ve now come to learn and expect going in that I’m not going to get a deep and moving story when I pick up these books. But I do enjoy a nice light, kinky read that is just entertaining once in a while. It’s like a mental palate cleanser in between more meaty books. This author does a good job of providing that. I liked the main characters and I got my happy ending. I will definitely continue to read these books.

The Sunday Post #5

Those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat history.

Granted that’s a loose interpretation of the quote, but it remains true. All over the world, peoples who have loosen their pandemic quarantines and other restrictions are now facing a resurgence of the virus. Earlier this week I got a What’s App Chat notice from my youngest daughter. They began offering in person class lessons at her son’s school 2 weeks ago. (She lives in Dayton, OH.) The day she made the post, the school district had it’s first COVID-19 positive student confirmed. That day, the decision was made to extend the upcoming Thanksgiving break. It now starts this coming Monday and will extend through the beginning of January with no virtual lessons being offered.

Thankfully, my grandson had been doing all of his classes virtually. When the school year began, my Husband and I asked if he needed anything for his school. We were going to offer to ship him our laptop that we weren’t using if it would help him. Dayton Public Schools had furnished the students with Chromebooks so he was using that. When we heard that all he needed to be able to use the larger computer monitor was a web camera, it was on it’s way from Amazon that very day.

So how does this tie into history?

If you research the 1918 pandemic, you will find that two of the larger cities, New York and Chicago, decided to bring the children in to school during the days. The belief was that since they had the highest doctor/nurse to student ratio, that the children would be safer under their care.

What people aren’t realizing is that during that time frame, the children were much more obedient than they are today. There were sufficient teachers to ensure that the children followed all the rules that were put in place. Children were raised to listen to and follow instructions given by adults. Today, we’ve raised generations of people that are more interested in doing their “own thing” than in following the rules.

We’ve failed to learn from history, and now we are paying the price.

Weekly Cup of Coco!

It has been a hilarious week here at home. It was a bit chilly one morning so my husband covered his legs with an afghan while sitting in his recliner. The next thing he knew, Coco had jumped up on my recliner then walked across the middle and settled down on the afghan between his legs!

At this point in time, we’ve given up on getting the Afghan back. She has laid claim to it and she’s not backing down!

Before he claims his mate, she must be brought to heel.

Skylar Owen is not used to taking orders from anyone and the last thing she wants in her life is an alpha who will demand her submission, but her world is turned upside down after a band of rogue wolves attacks her small, all-female pack. Ordered to disband her pack so that she can be matched with a mate, Skylar defies the Ruling Council, only to be hunted down and captured.

Though he can tell Skylar will be trouble the moment he sets eyes on her, Dylan Grainger knows how to tame a wayward woman, and it isn’t long before the beautiful, feisty redhead is tearfully promising obedience as her bare bottom is soundly spanked. But Dylan quickly realizes that Skylar is much more than just a headstrong female in need of an alpha’s firm-handed correction.

With each passing day, he grows more certain that she is his mate, and he knows that soon he must claim her, mark her, and take her hard and thoroughly. But will she resist her instincts, or will her body’s response to his bold dominance leave her in no doubt that she belongs to him?

Amber F. 3.0 out of 5 stars Repetitive but good Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2020

I found myself pretty frustrated reading this even though I enjoyed it. Many of the reviews state problems with what they called a lack of respect for the women and the sexist attitude of the story. That wasn’t my problem. I have always been a pretty laid back reader who is able to accept the rules and customs of the world in which I am reading about. They are shifters, not humans. Their beliefs and their reality is different and that is fine with me. My main issue was how repetitive it was. The same things are said over and over again by different people and sometimes even the same person. That gets boring really fast. I also thought that the story was quite busy. I wish more time had been focused on Dylan and Skylar, rather than all the glimpses of the other girls and stuff. The other stories are about them so I didn’t need them taking up so much space in this one.

I plan to read the next one to see if things start to flow a little better as the series progresses.

Three Quick Questions for Kat Nouri, Founder and CEO of Stasher

What’s wrong with lunch?

I think lunch is the most overlooked mealtime. Whether you’re working long days while at home, in an office, or just constantly on-the-go, balancing it all while trying to find inspiration for that mid-day meal can be draining and difficult. And that’s for a meal that should be our most important of the day! Most of us opt for uninspiring options or look to takeout for variety. What I love most about this book is that you can eat healthy, make it easy AND reduce your reliance on single-use plastic containers. I’m thrilled to share my ideas for easy, delicious and creative lunch ideas that are not only good for you, but good for the earth too!

What will readers learn from this cookbook?

I want people to be inspired again during lunch. This book provides options for easy prepping and tips that not only nourish your body but feed your imagination. We have easy-to-prep sandwich, salad, soup and snacks recipes that are super simple and make you look like a four-star chef. And it provides valuable and budget-friendly tips to make your meals (and kitchen) a little more planet-friendly.

What is your go-to favorite lunch?

I love a good salad with all the fixin’s. My absolute favorite go-to right now is the baked tofu salad with a miso-sesame vinaigrette. vIt’s a perfect warm-weather salad! I also love to pair the salad with the Kuku Sabzi. I make this ahead at the beginning of the week and then store it in my Stasher Stand-Up and it stays fresh for a few days in the fridge
