Don’t Let Your Guard Down Just Yet!!!

Case in Point:

Yes, folks in many states the age limits for getting a COVID-19 Vaccination is tumbling. But, please don’t let your guard down yet, there’s more to the story that you may not be aware of.

My oldest daughter lives in PA with her husband and the bright 2 1/2 year old daughter they adopted a year ago. They have faithfully taken every precaution recommended. She works from home most days, while he works on construction wearing appropriate gear. Riley wears a mask at her daycare center. Until recently, they have avoided gatherings with people they didn’t know.

Easter weekend, they attended a small family gathering. Sandra didn’t say, but it was undoubtedly outdoors. You would think that everyone would be safe. The older adults were getting their vaccinations as soon as possible, so they were covered.

Two days later one young man who was there tested positive. A week later my daughter started feeling poorly. She skipped church on Sunday because she didn’t feel good. Thinking she needed something for a sinus infection, she called her doctor. The doctor sent her to get a Covid test to rule that out. She stopped by CVS for a 3 day test. During this timeframe, she found herself not being able to taste things.

The three days went by, and she checked in with the pharmacy. They had no record of her having a test done! So she went to the local Urgent Care clinic for a Rapid Covid test. In no time at all, she found herself speaking to their doctor with a positive result!

The next day, her husband went for a test, while they took the baby in later in the evening when it would be quieter. At this point, neither adult has had a vaccination. The county where they live isn’t giving them to people in their 40’s yet. The surrounding counties have just now dropped the age requirement down to that level but are understandably swamped with calls. No appointments are available.

Now she, at least, will have to wait until she recovers from the virus to get her shots. People, remember that just because the state government has lowered the age limit to the next bracket, doesn’t mean every county falls in line. They want to, I’m sure, but they have to take supplies into consideration. It may take a few weeks or more, for your local area to start giving vaccinations to your age group. In the meantime, keep following all the precautions!
