Rebel Alpha (Aloha Shifters: Pearls of Desire Book 5)

All dragon shifter Cynthia “Brown” wants is a safe place to raise her child and heal from bitter betrayal. When Cal — her first love, her only love, and her destined mate — unexpectedly appears on Maui, he stirs up all kinds of other desires too. But trouble — as usual — is hot on his heels.

Cal Zydler has spent a decade secretively protecting the only woman he’s ever loved. Cynthia may be hopelessly out of his league, but he’ll never, ever give up on her, no matter how forbidden their love is. In his dreams, he rides off into the sunset with his destined mate on the back of his vintage motorcycle. In real life… Well, not every wolf shifter gets a happy ending, especially not a guy from the wrong side of the tracks. And not when danger lurks everywhere — even on a sunny island paradise.

Evil shifter forces are gathering to attack the Hawaiian hideaway where Cynthia and her young son have taken refuge. It’s her darkest hour, and Cal is ready to make the ultimate sacrifice. The future of all shifters stands on the brink, and even the Special Forces heroes of Koakea — dragons, lions, wolves, and bear shifters — will need help to beat the odds. Does Cal pose the ultimate danger, or is he Cynthia’s only hope?

The emotions that are captured from the pages of the story start from the very first words. I was drawn in by Cynthia and her restlessness and then kept reading because of Cal and his deep passion for life and protection. The shifters of Kai Point are family and this easy to feel as you read. I loved the fact that Ms. Lowe was able to have two loves for Cynthia and have neither man have ugly hate for the other. This really is not a stand-alone book. To truly know Cynthia and see how far she has come, you need to have seen the glimpses of her in each of the Pearls of Desire books and her prequel. Cynthia is so much more by the time this book started. She knows that she needs to be more and is willing to do what is needed. This was an excellent read.

Wow! This is an action packed suspense filled paranormal romance story. When Cal first met Cynthia he knew she would cause him pain. But never realized how muxch. She was his mate but being a line rebel wolf from the wrong side of the tracks and her coming from a line of royalty, old clan of Dragon shifters their love was doomed from day one,not that he would trade the time they shared even with his heart being ground to dust. Now he is back in Cynthias life to continue to protect her and Joey no matter how much pain he feels from not being able to have her. When years lonely years have passed by he has never been able to forget his mate. Cynthia thinks she owes it to Barnaby to stay a widow until she heard his voice telling her it's ok.Or is she imaging that so she can be with the only man she's ever loved? She loved Barnaby but like a brother even if they had to mate. It's been a lonely life for her but at least she had Joey. What did Cal have? or did he have a endless parade of beautiful woman? When Cal told her there had been no one since her she felt even more guilty. Will they be able to put the past behind? Will they destroy their enemies and have a chance to build a future? Will the men ever accept Cal as one of them ? The twists and turns to this story will keep you riveted until the very last page and leave you begging for more.I love the way this amazing author brings the characters to life before your eyes and makes you feel like you know them personally.I can hardly wait to see what's next by this multi talented author.

Omg, I LOVE Anna Lowe and I LOVE this series!!!! I've been waiting forever (it seemed) for Cynthia's book!!! And it was certainly worth the wait!!! She finally got her happiness, and I must admit to some tears when she first saw Cal. And I've adored little Joey throughout the whole series. How far she came about her attitude concerning Joey and trusting the other shifters to care for him for even a minute from Book One to Book Five. And it's always awesome how at the end of every book, they all came together for a meal and to celebrate the latest pearl found. I guess bottom line, I love these 2 series about shifters in Hawaii. I'm always sad when the final book comes out, as much as I love them. I try to make it last, but nope, I usually devour them in one sitting!!!! At least we have the new series Fire Maidens to look forward to!! And I DO!!!!!!

This book has earned its place in the Aloha Shifters: Pearls of Desire series. Even though this stand alone book is the last book in the series, it in no way is the least of them all. It was extremely well written and the characters were so believable that you were immediately pulled into the book right from the first page until the last. The way all of the characters interacted seamlessly with each other while dealing with everything that life decided to throw at them was very awe-inspiring. I mean let's face it, the past ALWAYS comes back to bite us in the a$$. lol But it's the way we deal with it that sets us apart from everyone else. This was certainly demonstrated in this book. I highly recommend this book for your reading pleasure, although you will have a richer experience by reading the complete series from the start.

I voluntarily read and am reviewing a free arc of this book.
