Harvest: Tangled Vines Prequel 1

This is one of two prequels to Delta James’ new series, Tangled Vines. It provides a much needed segue from the events of the last book of Wayward Mates into this new series. It is only available by signing up for Delta’s newsletter on her website.

Having triumphed over being kidnapped, turned against her will and sold to a pack of wolf-shifters, Stephanie Savik is now on her way to a new job as the assistant vintner at the Luna de Lobo Vineyard. To celebrate her success, she opts to spend the night in San Francisco.

Alexander Charles was also turned without his consent—the difference being it was done by his best friend in order to save his life. Xander is now second-in-command at Luna de Lobo.

Neither believes that they will ever experience the wondrous phenomenon known as a fated mate. Imagine their surprise when they discover how wrong they are in the unlikeliest place… the famed BDSM club, Torch Light.

Is it time to check yourself?

A few years ago, there was a saying “You need to check yourself before you wreck yourself.” Usually said between frenemies, it was a not so subtle way to warn someone that they needed to be very careful what they said next. I’m not talking about that kind of checking however.

It’s been a year since the Pandemic shut the world down. In those first few months, country after country slammed their borders closed and instituted almost draconian measures to try to stop the spread of the virus. People all over the world shuddered at the incredible numbers of cases and deaths that were attributed to the virus.

The medical and scientific communities leaped into action and by working far beyond overtime, managed to create vaccines that are quite effective against the virus. As cases numbers declined, some countries, including the US, started to relax the restrictions. People were getting fatigued with the efforts being asked of them. They just wanted to get back to normal.

India, and Brazil are currently experiencing Coronavirus spikes. India’s numbers have reached staggering numbers and the effects are spreading to neighboring countries. The same can be said of Brazil. In the case of India, at least, the spikes are due to relaxed restrictions and new variants.

All of this brings me back to my original question, is it time to check yourself? Are you still doing all the protective and preventative measures that were first put into place a year ago? When you go shopping, do you still wear a mask? Do you make an honest attempt to maintain some distance between yourself and the person in line in front of you? Do you take the time to wipe off the hard surfaces of items you are bringing into your home?

More importantly, if you are eligible in your area, have you been vaccinated? I don’t mean just getting one shot if the brand requires 2 shots. Have you gotten both of them? While yes, just one dose of either Pfizer or Moderna is 80% effective against the virus, it also allows for more breakout cases to occur. Getting that second shot is important.

So take a minute to do a quick check. Are you still doing everything you can to keep YOUR family from being infected??

Guarding Her Dragon (Dragon Guard Series Book 17)

What happens when a Christmas elf with way too much sass for her little pointed ears finds a centuries old Guardsman buried in the snow?
Well, she takes him home and nurses him back to health, of course.

If only everything was that easy. With six older sisters, two baby reindeer and an evil gnome of an auntie hellbent on world domination, Elsa’s got her hands full.

It’s gonna take more than a little Elven magic and the love of her dragon to make it to Christmas Eve, but this little elf is not giving up. She’s guarding her dragon with all she’s got and finding out the best things in life might just come wrapped in glittering green scales.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

She’s an elf. He’s a dragon. Elsa frees him from his dark magical prison that’s left him frozen for years. She knows he’s special therefore she helps him. Elsa is powerful but keeps her magic locked up tight because she fears it a little. Quinn is one of the lost Guardman Enforcers. When he’s rescued by a beautiful elf he’s very confused and has no memory and his dragon isn’t coming forth. He knows she’s special to him but cant quite remember why. After seeing a woman who appears to be part of Elsa’s family it all comes back and this is the woman who put him and his brethren in magical prisons. Is Elsa and her magic the key to healing his Dragon? Will they be able to defend themselves once that evil gnome comes for Elsa’s magic?

A freakin elf?! How cool is that, y’all? I LOVED Elsa and Quinn. She is a real spitfire and is the youngest and is done with all her sisters teasing her and annoying her. She wants an adventure that isn’t where her siblings are. Well…she sorta gets that adventure in the form of a dragon mate in Quinn. She’s very sweet and funny and beautiful! A big warm heart to boot. Quinn is just adorable and sexy! He’s sweet and protective but understands what Elsa needs in a mate. Not someone who tells her what to do but is a partner as well. They worked so well together. It’s a Christmas tale that will make your laugh and lighten your heart. Loved the book! I will say it was a shame that his brethren weren’t able to taste that revenge on that horrible woman.

This is book #17 of the awesome Dragon Guard series.
Elsa O'Leary and her family live in the Artic Circle. She is a very special Elf that has special powers which she locks into herself as she is a little afraid of it. She and her sister are going to find a Christmas tree and come across the silver, coffin like box. Elsa can tell there is a man in there but the box is surrounded by evil and keeping him trapped. The man happens to be Quinn MacKenna who is an Enforcer of the Dragon Guardsmen. He and his friends were cursed by an evil witch and placed in the coffins. He slowly regains his memory.

Elsa's Aunt Geneva, a wicked gnome, comes for a visit and tries to get Elsa to come and stay with her. Quinn hears her talking and realizes she is the witch who cursed him. He yells at her to get away from his mate. Aunt Geneva takes off. Geneva wants Elsa's powers for herself. She comes back with her buggers and tries to get Elsa. With the magic between Quinn and Elsa powers, they manage to destroy Geneva and her buggers.
Elsa wants Quinn but she wants a partner, not someone who tells her what to do all the time. Ah, the complexities of love. Will they work things out? You'll have to read for yourselves to find out the outcome.

I just love this series and each one gets better than the last one. This book was no exception and I highly recommend it and the whole series. Who wouldn't love books with dragons and all kinds of magical beings! This has action, suspense and some real belly laughs and of course hot romance! I'm eagerly waiting for the next one.

I have read all 17 books in this series, and can't wait for the next one!

Quinn is one of the lost Dragon Guard that has been considered dead for over 100 years.

Elsa is an Elf, with some powerful magic that she keeps hidden.

While out looking for a Christmas tree with her sister, Elsa kicks some snow and finds a silver coated coffin. Using her magic she is able to open it and finds a frozen "popsicle" man inside. Her sister wants nothing to do with the man, what if he is evil, but Elsa can't leave him, she feels she has to help him.

Quinn has been locked away, unable to communicate with his fellow brothers in the Dragon Guard. Once Elsa gets him safe and thawed, he is unable to remember who he is or what happened to him.

As Quinn begins to remember who he is and what happened, he also realizes that the aunt of his Elf (mate) is the one that locked him away.

A dragon and an elf, perfect for Christmas time. One might think an elf, really? But Julia Mills has written a wonderful storyline that has humor, magic, action, and of course the love of a mate.

The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars, is I wanted to read about Elsa getting to meet the other dragons and the Dragon Mating Ceremony. Always enjoy the preparation the Dragons go through to prepare.

Although you can read this book as a stand alone, I highly recommend reading the entire series.

Another lost Guardsman is found as a mansicle in a silver coffin.

Elsa, a elf & her sister Mona were out getting a tree for Christmas for their mom when Elsa found the silver coffin & decided to open it. With her elven magic of course & in there she not only finds a mansicle but, also her mate.

Quinn once he was thawed out at 1st didn’t know his name but what he did know was that he immediately felt something for Elsa.

& as the days go by with Elsa’s family taking care of him to get well enough to remember his name & how he got there he also realizes that Elsa is his mate.

But, to find out more you’ll have to read the book.

I love all The Interstellar Bride books. Grace Goodwin delivers a world that seems so real, nothing left to imagine. Like the worlds of Harry Potter or The Hobbit, the author describes every detail. Letting you feel like you are walking next to the characters. The love story of Quinn and Naiobe start on a Hive infested base , onto a battleship, Prillion Prime and the cadet training grounds. The story is really too good to even hint at. Two people from very different worlds with very different lives thrust together through the bride testing program.. Will she bend to him? Too not being in control? Will he be able to give a little? To compromise?
One of the best scenes was in the canteen when Commander Karter threatened to shoot Quinn (just stun him) unless he started talking about his feelings! LOL. How the earth females have changed these war hardened warriors. With every review I write for this series, I remain with the same thought...READ THIS..I read 1 or 2 randomly and then sucked it up and bought them all in 1 day and started reading in order!

Vice Admiral Niobe wasn’t planning on finding a mate but was tested and BAM, her match is Elite Hunter Quinn. Quinn was been captured by the Hives leader Nexus. He didn’t ever think he would find a mate. When Niobe shows up, she is instantly in Hive central and rescuing Quinn. But things aren’t as easy with their mating.

I was glad about the rescue but boy did these two have a great deal to work through. Being a Hunter makes things really tough. And Niobe’s position is high up there. THAT was really tough for Quinn to understand and find his place with her. With the Hunter mentality of chasing, these two were having to find that middle ground. There were parts that you just wanted to smack the back of Quinn’s head. Then you end up chuckling over the conversation with all the other warriors and commanders. These two were so hot for each other. I look forward to reading about Commander Zeus and Atlan Zan.

What would you give up for your mate? Vice Admiral Niobe, thanks to her friends, she is in the bride testing chair having the most amazing experience. In her 30's and at her rank there probably wouldn't be a mate for her. To her surprise she has a mate. Right away she is tranported to his location. Elite Hunter Quinn is a captive of the hive. He has been tortured, his crew has been killed, and no escape in sight. Was did come into view was the most amazing woman he ever saw. Not exactly the perfect meeting, but it led to good things for the coalition, but it is not ending up that way for Quinn. His mate is high ranking and all business. Able to go places and do things he can not. That was not going to work, his plan was genius, hopfully he would not end up in jail. Love this book, and the series is amazing.

As a fan of Ms. Delta James' Wayward Mates series, there are many similarities in the storyline, two wolf shifters meeting, realizing they are fated mates, which she will fight, but never wins. But then, beyond how they come together, accept fate, and the relationship, the story is new. This new series, Tangled Vines, will also revolve around vineyards.

Shasta Warren, daughter of Artemis Warren, sent her to Sonoma Pack because he was tired of dealing with her. She has earned a reputation of being difficult, but Xander Charles, from Sonoma, shows her kindness compared to her father's Beta. When she goes to the Sonoma Pack, she is a bitter she-wolf, uncooperative, but she isn't mistreated.

Hudson Rhodes has recently ended his military time as a Navy SEAL and is ready to take his rightful place as Alpha of Coronado—removing his older brother, Miles, and his mate, Chelsea. After he sets things right again, he will be going to Damian's for a meeting of other Alphas to discuss the issues with the hunters. What a surprise when he arrives and can smell her—his fated mate.

"Hudson had finally found her. His fated mate was here."

The plot begins with a group of Alphas coming together at Sonoma Pack and having Shasta use their businesses to attempt to make her escape. She may get away on Zeus, Damian's stallion, but once Hudson catches her sent, he is in pursuit, going a different route provided to claim his fated mate. The story has plenty of angst, action, adventure, mystery, suspense, and danger. Before Hudson can claim Shasta, they will come under attack by Hunters, and he is injured helping her escape. Shasta will direct others to his location, and while she might be able to slip away, she doesn't; she waits for Hudson—for the medics—and then must decide her future.

"I’m not afraid of the big bad wolf because I am one.”
“I won’t be playing. When being punished, your likes are not high on my list of concerns. I’m going to take fiendish delight in the way I deliciously discipline you.”
“But who will save you from me? And will I be safe there”
“Always, my fierce, beautiful, courageous fated mate. Always.”

The good, the bad, and the ugly play their roles. While Shasta would rather be by herself, a lone she-wolf, especially with the danger of the Hunters, is foolish. There is something about Hudson that calls to her, she watched him risk his life to save hers, and he treats her well. But that isn’t enough for her to slip away while he is recovering—or him to come to NOLA and find her. The Hunters are becoming more brazen, and the risk is high—but maybe, just maybe, Shasta will be able to convince one of them that they are being played.

“I once thought I wanted no wolf at all. But a wise friend once told me that when happiness with your fated mate presents itself, you are a fool to turn away.” –Darby

“Shasta, I want you to know that not only do I recognize the gift you gave me, but I will cherish it always.”
“I’m thankful to have a mate who knows me so well, but still chooses to be with me.”
“I have no choice, but even if I did, I would always choose to love you and call you mine.”

The story does have power exchange, male dominance, feisty females, who eventually learn submission is powerful. There are explicit scenes and discipline. While this story does not end on a cliffhanger, several people mentioned in it will have their own story next.

Shasta has been a thorn in the side of her Alpha. When Hudson shows up at her pack wanting to discuss the Coronado Vineyard he declares her his mate and let the games begin. The Hunters are becoming more and more bold, what will happen when Hudson is attacked by said Hunters? Will Shasta come to his aide? After she disappears will Hudson track his wayward mate down?

TEARS FOR HER DRAGON by Julia Mills

This is book #16 of the Dragon Guard Series but can be read as a stand alone. This is Kyran O'Connor's story (the Black Dragon known as the Phantom) who was held a prisoner, tortured and his dragon magic taken away and had finally gotten free. He has been drawn to this lone cottage in the woods where Caitlin Brookes (a Banshee & blind) lives with her guard dog/companion, Duke. Kyran knows this woman is his mate and that she alone can repair his broken soul and broken heart. Caitlin has the foresight of death and has seen all about Kyran, and knows she is his mate. They are both seeking revenge for the wrongs done to them by the O'Baoill Hunter Family. Will Caitlin heal Kyran's shattered soul so they can be together or will revenge be Kryan's be all? I loved this story just as I love all the books in this series. It's a hot, sexy & sweet story. If you love Julia's books, you just love this one too.

Oh wow Miss Mills has outdone herself once again. This is an expanded version for the novella and did she add some explosive material.
One of our lost dragons, Kyran has vengeance towards that evil... woman... Eve, that has pain, heartache and Eve death to many shifters. His torture was most cruel as they severed this access to his black Dragon within him with black magic. Black magic was literally marking him.
Caitlin is blind and has Duke her dog for company. She knows her Dragon was outside watching over her. And as usual, with all our Alpha dragon males mats, she does not disappoint us. She goes and get her dragon mate.
Kyran is awesome, even through all his issues he wants the best for his mate. Always.
His anger and hate towards Eve and her family goes up more than a just a notch when he heard how they have affected Caitlin life.
We see a few of our all friends from the Blue Thunder Clan. And we see how justice is metered out not once but twice!
Once you get on these adventures with the Dragon Guard, you just can't wait for the next one to appear!!!
Can't wait Miss Mills.

Tears for her Dragon is part of Julia Mill's popular Dragon Guard series. I suggest for the highest emotional impact that you have read the previous books in the series. I have not read them all and while I enjoyed it, I'm almost certain I would have enjoyed this more had I done so.

Kyran is a Black Dragon and was held prisoner by the evil hunters who tortured him. He escaped with the help of his brethren but has vowed vengeance on Eve - the head hunter and the one who has been experimenting on shifters. However, he's drawn from his cave to a secluded house where he meets Caitlyn. Caitlyn is blind, her only companion a german shepherd named Duke. Caitlyn is also his mate and another victim of the evil hunters. Together, they can take vengeance on the one responsible for their pain.

There is a lot going on in this book and it is a fast book to read. If you've liked Ms. Mills other books in this series, than you will likely enjoy this. As with many of her books, I found that she moved a little too quickly for my tastes and I was often left confused as to who characters were and what their specific powers were. In fact, the pace was so quick that it seemed that events that happened that were supposed to lead to a confrontation or an issue were instead brushed aside. I didn't really feel an emotional connection to the characters and that made the climax difficult to feel anything more than indifference.

One lone dragon pulled from his mountain to save the clan he’s sworn fealty to and the only family he’s ever known.

One Grand Priestess, the most magical witch of her time, the leader of her kind, and a survivor of torture.

Two powerful beings, blessed by the Goddess, destined by the Universe… a couple unlike any other.

Can their combined magic, all the love that they have and a faith in all they hold dear be enough to defeat the evil that’s sworn to destroy them all?

How Are You Doing?

During this pandemic, my local ABC station has been playing a commercial that features this statement. Asked by different news staff, the emphasis changes from person to person. The point being that we can all get through this pandemic, together.

If you read Sunday’s post, then you are aware that my oldest daughter has been diagnosed with Covid-19. We both have Amazon’s Echo Shows, so I was checking in with her to see how she was doing. In doing so, I was reminded of another couple who are friends of ours.

Rebel Wolf by Anna Lowe

Sophie Wilkins — bookworm and smoothie chef extraordinaire — has moved to Maui for a reminder of all the beauty and love in the world. And love is what she gets from shy, retiring, and utterly gorgeous man she meets. Chase is everything her lonely heart has ever yearned for. He’s mysterious too, with a raw, animal intensity that appeals to a wild side she never knew she had.

Healing of the Wolf by Cherise Sinclair

A decade in captivity tore away all hope.

But Margery never lost her resolve to help the sick. The village she’d hoped to serve as banfasa, caring for the ill and injured, is long gone. Humans captured the young shifters and killed the adults. Finally rescued, she has a chance at her dreams—at least for meaningful work. With her leg crippled and her face scarred, she knows she has no hope of ever finding love.

Starfighter Training Academy. It was just a game. The newest, hottest video game release of the year. Choose a role. Build the perfect hero who joins you on missions to save the Vega star system from the evil Queen Raya and her merciless Dark Fleet.

Wolf Unleashed by Heather Long

Change swept through the packs of North America, leaving in its wake seven packs where once only five stood. Old enemies still lurk, past hatreds fester, and the shadow of invaders linger. The challenge of diplomacy, evaluating the old laws, and instituting the new ones falls squarely on the shoulders of the pack Seconds. It’s a whole new world, and what took so long to construct…remains vulnerable.

It can happen anywhere.

Face it folks, when we are watching the evening news and they show neighborhoods where there has been some kind of crime, our first reaction is “that would never happen in my neighborhood.” It’s just human nature to assume that nothing bad ever happens around us. The truth is, it does.

I live in a very quiet neighborhood. The most exciting thing to happen here is when a nearby street was closed for repaving, and all the traffic was rerouted on to our street. This led to a lot more speeding than we normally see. Then this morning, something else occurred.

As I turned the corner from our trailer park on to the street, I was greeted with the sight of police tape across the street at the bike trail and the street was filled with police cars. Both from the city I live in, and the one that starts on the other side of the street. Now this was decidedly not a normal occurrence!

An admittedly nosy question to a police officer  yielded the story that it was still an active crime scene. For me, that was enough said. As I turned to go down the trail, a young woman who could barely keep herself together, walked up. She was a family member, and my heart hurt for her.

As I took Coco on her second walk. I noticed that the police presence had reduced. A question to the volunteer you see in this photo got me the information that the other officers had been sent home to get some sleep. In other words, this crime started sometime during the night. As I said before, this is a quiet area. Our peace had been shattered.

As the morning went on, other police officers arrived. Here’s the police photographer taking shots down the street.

The Mobile Command Center was a surprise. The local NBC affiliate was there talking with people. Surprisingly, a crew from Telemundo News was there. I didn’t know the family who was involved, but the Spanish crew was a wonderful addition

The next time you are tempted to think that crime couldn’t touch your neighborhood, think again. Look at the peaceful street behind the police vehicle. It could happen anywhere.

P.S.

The local news services reported later that this was a double homecide. Two older women, believed to be mother and daughter, were killed during the night. The suspect is a 19 year old man who climbed in a window and grabbed the sharpest kitchen knife he could find. It is believed to be a random attack.
