MacAllen Clan: Save a Horse, Ride a Dragon (Dragon Guard Series Book 33)

On her ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ soul-searching journey across the country with nothing but her radio blastin’, the top rolled down, and her trusty red Jeep named Daisy Mae, Dax may have bitten off more than she can chew this time.

Bright red hair and a smile that darn near knocks him on his butt, the woman stuck on the side of the road is a wild filly J.D. would love to tame, but then again, she’s absolutely perfect just the way she is.

The desert’s hot but this couple’s hotter, not to mention the raised-from-the-dead Medicine Man who’s hell bent on bathing his special little precious in their blood. Talk about prickly as a cactus!

The Great Creator and the Universe don’t make mistakes and Fate Will Not Be Denied, but the flames of Destiny are hotter than ever before.

Grab your hat and boots and head for the desert, ‘cause this lady’s claiming her Dragon and nothin’ will ever be the same.

There was a lot of fire used in the making of this book.

Also, the description of Dax’s fire horse kind of reminded me of a Pokémon character “Rapidash”.

Dax is part witch but, doesn’t use that part very often & she’s part Fire Horse; she’s on a trip by herself when her Jeep named Daisy Mae stops working & breaks down in the middle of nowhere.

J.D. (& no he’s not named after some booze) comes out of nowhere according to Dax & gives her a compliment about her butt & says that he’ll take a look at her vehicle. J.D. finds out that Daisy Mae has a hole in her radiator & no there isn’t any automotive place open until Monday.

That is how J.D. & Dax meet. Now it’s your turn to find out what they have to do before they can get mated.

I bought this book when it was free to give it a try and read a new author. While there was nothing wrong with the author, I would definitely read something from them again. This book just missed the mark with me.

I liked the two characters. I liked the idea of them being mates and there families were a fun bunch.

The part that I had a hard time and it wasn't until I finished that I realized that this book book 33 in a series. It said it can be read as a standalone but I don't think it can. There was SO much that was going on in this book that I felt it just brought you out of the story. There is a lot of made up things in here because it is a paranormal book which makes sense but its told so fast that its expected as a reader you know what this is.

Dax was a hard character for me to understand. She was quite prickly and she could accept her horse side but not her witch side which I don't think was really full explained.

Like I said, I think the book was well written but I would be hesitant to read this as a standalone.

WOW, what a hot, explosive and fiery story this is. I'm keeping this short otherwise I'll give away too much. Couldn't put it down until I was finished!! Dax & J.D. are two very strong shifters. The two have to come together to fight an evil that wants to take over the world. This story has it all-edge of your seat adventure, magic, shifters and witches. Highly recommend this story and hope for more like this one. You'll love this one too! Fantabulous!!

Dax has never embraced her true potential, her witchy powers are ahhhh, but her Fire Horse, now that's another thing, she loves to fly around! She is also a very independent woman and loves to take off on her own which in the present situation means meeting up with a very hawt cowboy when her Daisy Mae breaks down. Can there be a message here? Dragon warrior J.D. is more than happy to help a damsel in distress and man does this damsel need to be de-distressed. Problem is as soon as he takes her home she disappears in a flash, not even his very powerful witchy mother can figure it out, but her mate can.....J.D.

Final Thoughts

As I sit and type this up, I find myself shaking my head at people. The remnants of Hurricane Ida has wrecked havoc on the Northeast. The images we see show flooding everywhere.

A common theme seems to be cars stranded on roads and intersections where the drivers thought they could drive through the water. Folks, take a good look at just how high your car sits up off the ground. For newer cars, that clearance isn’t all that much! If the water is deeper than that, you aren’t going to make it!

Trucks and SUVs have somewhat more clearance, but I remember seeing images of 18 wheelers up to their axles in water. People, pay attention! Don’t drive through the water. It will cost you more than you can think to fix that car.

Jarek: Dragons of Preor #1

What’s hotter than an alien with scales? An alien with wings and scales, not to mention a hot body.

At 457 Preor years old, Jarek sen Claron is a dragon ready for his final flight into the skies. This voyage to Earth as the War Master of the third fleet will be his final assignment. Once he has helped his fellow Preors secure human mates, he will return to Preor before the madness of loneliness overtakes his mind.

That all changes when he meets Melissa. Human Melissa with her sparkling eyes, bright smile, and body that would make any hot-blooded male drool. Unfortunately, she never registered as a Preor mate hopeful. No matter, the Knowing stretches between them and there is no way she can resist him. Until she does.

Jarek wishes to give her the choice to mate him, while everything inside him screams to take Melissa beneath his wing, now. No choosing necessary.

But should he draw her to his side when his enemies are circling? Many males do not believe the son of a Preor mass murderer deserves to have a mate. Can he survive the coming battles? Or will he die without tasting sweet Melissa’s lips?

The Reviews!

If you are looking for steam factors, keep looking. To be perfectly honest, I’ve read books with a great deal more steam. BUT if you are looking for world building and great descriptions, take a look inside. The world building is first rate, the descriptions are fabulous. The characters are well written with flaws that we can all relate to. I first read this series a few years ago. I keep coming back to it because the author keeps adding to it, and I’m curious about where she will take it next!

This is a paranormal romance with action. This is the first book in the Dragons of Preor. I can not wait to read more. This is for adult's only due to the sexual content. This is a fast paced read with a HOT dragon alien what more could you ask for? I really enjoyed the connection between Jarek and Melissa and how he gave her time to adjust to him, he didn't force their mating on her.

Jarek is a alien dragon who is on his final flight, he is ready to accept he will never mate and he will die a lonely mad death. Well until he meets human Melissa, he wants to take her immediately but she has other plans. Tragedy strikes and Jarek is in danger, Melissa realizes she has feelings for him.... more than she was willing to admit. Can she accept this dragon of a man, or will Jarek parish from his injuries?

Favorite passages:
"His voice slid over her, vibrating against her nerves and then sinking into her bones."
"She did not sign up to be Miss Hope of America, thankyouverymuch."
"She didn't mean to sound like a bitch. Really. But overwhelming pain and the urge to vomit up her intestines sorta made a girl want to bust out her b**** hat."
"Oh, she could walk away, but she wasn't sure she find happiness with anyone other than the great hulking make before her."
"Your tears batter my heart."
"All righty then. At some point she grew a set of balls. Big brass ones, apparently."
"The dark water drew nearer, death beckoning him like a siren and he did not have the strength to resist."

Totally hot, sexy, alpha men looking for their soulmate to love, cherish and make little dragonlets with. Um, yeah. Since I already have my "one and only" I don't need to order a Dragon of Preor, but if I didn't...I'm just sayin'. Put me on the meet-n-greet list.

Love the world, interesting characters, and a solid plot.

This is the first book that I have read by Celia Kyle. I have two of her other books on my TBR list and am hoping to read them soon. Wanted to read this series because she has a new book in this series coming out about baby dragons being born and I want to read it. So, I am reading the ‘The Dragons of Preor” right now. Loved this first book about Jarek and his mate Melissa. Thought Celia did an excellent job telling their story. I am hoping that this is a sign of the rest of the books in this series. This one for sure is one to grab and read. I am sure you will not be disappointed.

Jarek is a dragon shifter on the planet Preor. These dragons keep the wings when in human form. (Which I thought was an awesome take on the dragon shifter.) He is getting to the age where he will go into the madness since he has not found his mate in his 457 years and he never thought to ever find her. So, as the War Master of the third fleet he decided to help the young dragons find their mate with the treaty from earth and the help of the Ujal. He had no idea that he would ever find his mate, much less on earth. He figured this would be his last trip before heading into his final journey as the madness consumes him. Once he leaves the ship to meet with the Ujal delegation he gets this odd feeling that something isn’t right and being the War Master assumed that maybe the Ujal were in danger. But that changes once he reaches delegation and he sees Melissa with the Prince Tave’s baby then the Knowing struck.

The Ujal are going to be advocates in helping the Preor find their human mates. Melissa never registered as a potential Preor mate because she is the nanny to the baby of the Ujal Prince Tave and Principessa Rina fa’Vyl-Zeret. While playing with the baby Ressa, Melissa’s world began to change. She could tell that something wasn’t right and that it was as if the air is sucked out of her. She has feelings that she isn’t feeling and can’t seem to separate each feeling from the next.

This is where I stop. Because from here on out you need to read the book and see for yourself how good it gets. Jarek has his job cut out for him in protecting Melissa and himself from the Preor that do not believe he deserves a mate. Will Jarek and Melissa survive the coming storm?

Once again, this author has managed to bring us a power couple, thruple, well you know what I mean!, that captures the imagination and our hearts, well she caught mine at least. I love how man or woman it doesn’t matter; we all share the same struggles and the author captured that perfectly in this book. She brought back my favorite match maker and used her powers for good when she not only made the perfect romantic match, but the perfect merger of like individuals. Every time I pick up one of the 30 books in this series, I am a little worried that I might find a repeat or an eerie similarity to one of its predecessors between the pages, but this author is on the ball and that has never happened. Her imagination seems to have no bounds. I enjoyed this story, and I can see myself reading it again to pick up any nuances I might have missed the first time. There is an unknown party at play and all of their lives are in jeopardy. Ash loves her men but will she trust them?

This is a must read. I adore the three of them together and how strong Ash is as a woman.

Fury of Desire (Dragonfury Book 4)

Of all of the warriors in the Nightfury pack, none is more complicated or more damaged than Wick. Emotionally scarred from a childhood of slavery and torture, Wick can barely stand the touch of another person. But all bets are off when he meets newcomer J.J. Solares. When J.J. is unjustly imprisoned, Wick agrees to help rescue and return her to the family fold. But Wick lives a life of self-imposed isolation, even among his beloved brothers in arms. Venturing into the world to seek justice for J.J. may be more than he can bear.

Meanwhile J.J. fights for her life at the hands of brutal prison guard Griggs. When she winds up in the hospital she sees no hope for things getting better. But events take a dramatic turn when she and Wick encounter each other. The connection they share is unlike anything either has felt before. J.J. believes she is hallucinating when she sees the majestic dark-haired god sweep in to save her, and Wick is shaken to his core by the attraction he feels for J.J. For the first time in his life, he finds himself wanting to get close to a woman.

But neither is out of harm’s way yet. And when they find themselves in the center of a Dragonkind war, they are forced to make the ultimate choice between surrendering to their fears or each other’s love.

I have read the entire Dragonfury series and I liked this book the best of all, although the short story Fury of Fate was exceptional (one of the best short stories I've read in a very long time, regardless of genre). I think Fury of Desire is well written, has a good story line that keeps expanding and making me wish she would write more Dragonfury books. Please Ms. Callahan! I'm dying to know what happens with the Metallics and the Archguard... and what about Scotland? Keep in mind this is not a Pulitzer Prize winner I had to slog my way through so I could tell my friends I read it. (I hope the author doesn't find this comment to be a slur, it was not meant that way.) I slogged my way through a lot of books in college, now I prefer to enjoy what I read without pretense. But wow have I read some just awful writing thanks to my Prime membership and Kindle Unlimited- someone needs to vet this stuff!! Seriously makes me question the difficulty of getting published. The Dragonfury series on the other hand is a very good read. I was thrilled to find it.

Highly recommend you read the other three books first, in order. You could read this as a stand alone, she's good at dropping hints and explaining things that happened in the previous books. But I think you get more out of the book having read the series in order. The book is a modern, urban setting- refreshing given all of the medieval period dragon romances. I personally really enjoy the characters, I find the guys funny, bordering on hilarious, charming and very... manly. The women are all right but let's face it, I don't read PNR for the chicks. Although I do like JJ, her character is a bit underdeveloped (I bet the author knows we don't read these for the chicks either). She uses military-styled language and terms, the usage is spot on (never read a series before that actually used H&K or Sig). I think it adds to the flavor of the story and it's characters.

I liked the series so much I've read it multiple times (yep the whole thing) just hoping she'll write another one.

4.0 out of 5 stars The healing touch of 'Desire' for Wick and his also damaged mate
Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2014

Fury of Desire turned out to be my favorite of the series so far. The emotionally damaged dragon shifter, Wick, starts out such a mess that he can barely feed - the trauma from a childhood of slavery and torture have left him unable to bear to be touched. All though he is incredibly antisocial, even with his Dragon brethren, he is fiercely loyal. And even though he sees himself as an irredeemable killer, he has hidden depths and an artist's soul. But it is his loyalty and honor, which make him feel that he has a debt to repay and to that end he is determined to rescue JJ, the sister to a mate of one of his comrades. JJ has her own scarred past and little does Wick release that fate has found him a kindred spirit, one he feels unworthy to claim - but one he cannot resist.

I always have an bit of an issue with this series due to the BDBspeak (black dagger brotherhood), so it takes me a bit to get past that and get into the story, but the vulnerability of these two damaged souls and JJ's willingness to go after what she wants despite her fears - and to get Wick to accept that even though he feels she deserves more than he can give than he should just try to be what she deserves - really made the story for me.

There are some interesting things going on in the background ARC (and some horrible ones too - the villains are just so black hat evil) and add in some male bonding moments from the rest of Wick's brother dragons to round things out and I am looking forward to the next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Much better than the first three books.

Ah, this one was much better than the previous books. The romance was sweeter with Wick’s (aka Zsadist from BDB) turn to find his mate and with Jamieson injured and in a cast, she wasn’t going to leave the lair for self-centred reasons and put everyone else in danger. (Myst and Tania in books 1 and 3).
Also, the theme of the series has taken an intriguing turn with the links to Prague, so much so that I couldn’t put the book down at times, I needed to see what happened next.
I still have issues with the series -why have the magic portal to keep the enemy out of the lair when they can go around the back and walk in the French doors?
Why take severely injured dragons and mates through the portal when they can go around the back?
What do the humans think when their buildings etc are trashed during a fight between cloaked dragons - are they all stupid?
Why don’t the dragons use mobile phones to communicate with their Metallics in Prague or anywhere else for that matter?
Too many unanswered questions.

This must be the most captivating book so far. All the previous books were captivating but this one had more action and the main couple was so much better.

JJ, Tania's sister is in the hospital after being brutally assaulted in prison. Wick, the most dangerous Nightfury wants to get her from there and prison, in retribution to Mac's helping his friend Venom. When getting her from the hospital, the Nightfuries, meet a new and intriguing character, dragonkin too, that is trying also to get JJ out of the hospital. From here the action is non-stop until the end of the book.

We also get to see a little more of what's going on at Prague; unfortunatelly, it was very little and that part ends with a cliffhanger that's killing me!

JJ and Wick are 2 very damaged people, they don't trust easily, but the attraction between them is so strong and irresistable making this the most sweet and perfect couple.

The prequel to set up this series did a fantastic job of introducing the main characters featured in the following four books. These are the sons of Hannah Waverly, Cade, Cash, Cole, and Clay, who will each have their own story. But this prequel starts sad, with Hannah's death, the reading of her will, and the responsibilities of her sons. The series is a paranormal shifter with steamy heat and power exchange.

Cade Waverly is with Delta Forces and only in town long enough for the funeral, and then he must leave on another mission—that is his life. He is the oldest of the sons. The Waverly sons have secrets—they are mountain lion shifters. While they can mate with a human, and their offspring would be full-blooded, his mate would not. Cade has known that Trey was his—but right now, it isn't the right time.

"He'd known Trey was his bonded spirit—the one to make him complete in each of his nine lives."

Teresa 'Trey' Mitchell has always had a thing for Cade, but he usually is away. After the funeral, she will invite him back to her place where they have a night of passion—and then he is gone.

Fast forward ten years and Cade is leaving the military and is ready to track down Trey, a Special Agent with the FBI. What a shock when he decides to shift and take a run off the Appalachian Trail and overhears a group of men and their intent for a female. Even crazier, it is Trey, and she isn't armed. He will rescue her and keep her safe until law enforcement arrives. Now, it is time for this big kitty to go after his girl.

The story is the beginning of Cade and Trey's relationship, where she will discover that he is a dominant man who means business. He respects her job and knows how impressive it is that she has climbed the ladder within the FBI, but she is his, and that comes first. He will find out where she will be—meets her and takes her back to his motel where they reconnect.

"If this was insanity, then, by all means, let crazy rule."

The story is full of action, adventure, mystery, suspense, passion, romance with a dominant man and a woman who loves him enough to acquiesce and submit. Now, it is time for them to start their life away from the rat race and back in Idaho. The following story will be more on Cade and Trey in Untamed.

"When my life is over, I want to know I spent it with you."

This book was actually a prequel for the next, which was not clear when I started reading it. The story was a bit disjointed, jumping a bit from scene to scene, making me feel a bit lost at times. I really enjoyed both the characters as well as the overall storyline, just wish it flowed a bit easier. I have a feeling this prequel could've easily been added to the next book for an overall more enjoyable experience.

I loved this story. It was spicy and sexy and a little bit angsty. Cades mother had passed, he and his brothers inherited most of her holdings, the father the main stretch. He couldn’t sell it, only lease it. The brothers were not very happy with that. Just as things were heating up the father fell off his horse. What happened? You need to read the rest of the story, can’t wait to read the rest of this exciting series.

WHEW! 'Determined' is the first book in Delta James's "Ghost Cat Canyon" series and what an exhilarating storyline she has provided. She's painted a picture of the landscape that is the backdrop of the movie that plays out in my mind as I'm reading. Hannah Waverly, the mother of Cade, Cash, Cole, and Clay, has been murdered. We experience the set of events and know what happened but we're left with the mystery of who did it. Was it her abusive, soon-to-be ex-husband Cyrus or perhaps Lorna, the woman who was sent to them in hopes of finding a mate? We do meet Cade and Teresa, aka Trey. Cade, like the rest of his brothers, is a mountain lion shifter and Trey is his fated mate or soul bond. Even with Fate playing a hand sometimes there needs to be a second chance at things and these two have definitely proved that theory. With action, adventure, mystery, suspense, passion, domestic discipline, this was definitely a great way to begin a series. I'm hooked!!
