Strong: Ghost Cat Canyon Book 5

The exciting conclusion to Ghost Cat Canyon!

I won’t let my mate slip away again.

I will have to use all my intelligence training to solve the murder of my father and clear my brother’s name. My brother hired Kennedy Greyson, lawyer extraordinaire and my bonded spirit, to defend the family.

We have a past neither wants to admit to, much less try to fix. I move in a shadowy world that frightens and repulses her. But she knows the core of the man she’s fallen in love with is honorable and worthy.

As a human, she is unaware of the existence of shifters. She must work her way through the mire of small-town jurisprudence and her own feelings to solve not only the whodunit of Cyrus’s murder but the secrets that lie at the heart of Looking Glass Falls deceptions.

I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t read mysteries. So it shouldn’t surprise anyone for me to admit that I did not see the ending coming. Okay, let me rephrase that, we all knew the killer would be exposed. I just didn’t expect “who” the killer of Cyrus was.

We also learn who killed Hannah in the first place. A few other unexplained deaths are solved. Also, an unexpected type of shifter is revealed. All in all, a very enjoyable series conclusion!

And apparently so do great series. This amazing author managed to write books that while complete as far as each couple is concerned had an overlaying storyline that had me guessing whodunit from start to finish. Yes I was slapping my forehead for not figuring it out sooner, but put it down to being so captivated by the chemistry of each couple that it was hard to think coherently. Fabulous paranormal/shifter read with enough twists and turns to please any mystery/suspense buff.

The series has been an ongoing saga revolving around a murder, one that will conclude with Strong. The sons of Cyrus and Hannah Waverly, Cade, Cash, Cole, and Clay, will each be involved in the storylines. The series is a paranormal shifter tale with steamy heat and power exchange and includes dubious consent and consent. The story is full of action, adventure, danger, mystery, suspense, passion, romance with a dominant man and a woman who loves him enough to acquiesce and submit.

“He tried to tell himself he’d taken no pleasure in what he’d done, but that was a lie. There was a primitive, feral satisfaction that came from having served justice so completely.”

Strong is the final book in this fantastic murder/mystery/suspense series, and the killer of the much-hated Cyrus Waverly will be revealed. BUT, this story is so much more than that—it is full of motives, secrets, greed, and best of all, the passion between two people—former lovers who have been apart for seven years. Yes, this will bring Cole Waverly and Kennedy Greyson together. She is the high-powered defense attorney hired to represent Clay Waverly. It isn’t an easy or fast reunion because there is plenty of angst and anger in her.

The story’s plot gave this avid reader everything I wanted in the final story—continuing along the murder-mystery-whodunit and the heated relationship between Cole and Kennedy. There are so many people in line to see the demise of Cyrus—I don’t think he had any friends, no one to mourn his death; if anything, they toasted his end. But, someone is trying to frame Clay—the only one of the four sons without an alibi. It will be up to Kennedy to protect her client—and even his family when the heat is on. Cyrus was in bed with the wrong people, and the Waverly family and Koyama have their enemies—but was it enough for murder? The one thing that Kennedy nor Cole was expecting was each other—but now that they are together, he is determined that it will be forever.

“It’s all right, Kennedy. No one will know I was here, not tonight or any of the other nights until you’re ready to tell them. But, make no mistake, Kennedy Greyson, you’re mine and this time nothing and no one will take you from me.”

The story has a back history of Kennedy and Cole—back during their military days, and it even comes with the good, bad, and ugly of situations. Secrets because of military clearances, lies from superiors, and the fallout will all play their part in this tale. But Cole is a man who has known that she is his bonded spirit—there will be no other—and now that she is at Koyama, he doesn’t plan on losing her again. How will he share with her his secret, and once she learns he is a cat shifter, how will she react? What does their future hold?

“If I don’t get to feel guilty about our past, neither do you.”

Kennedy: You do know I’m on your side and at some point, I’m going to need to talk to him, right?
Trey: No one’s trying to exclude you.
Kennedy: I know you think you’re protecting me and him, but you aren’t. They will get a proper search warrant for the ranch and bring out a team.
Cole: Who will never find him. I’m telling you, Grey, if he doesn’t want to be found, he won’t be.

“Soon, he was going to have to lay all his cards on the table. He’d lost her once to a pack of lies, deceptions, and half-truths, he wasn’t going to do it again.”

The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly of people—even people who should be upholding the law instead of remaking it because of getting in bed with the devil. Several murders or suspicious deaths in a small town can’t be coincidental—and it isn’t. Money, greed, hatred, power, and control all play their role—but was it enough to kill? How far will the enemy go to get what they want? Threatening the land, the lives, and the livelihood? I will have to say that I liked the powerhouse of Kennedy Greyson, and the chemistry between Cole and her is the perfect blend of dominance and submission, control and surrender, and erotic passion. Even one final secret doesn’t scare her away—she embraces it.

“How about this time we choose together and choose us?”

BTW, when the killer is finally revealed, it all makes perfect sense! I would love to see another book—or novella for the four Waverly brothers and their bonded spirit to have their weddings.

Negotiation (A Paranormal Mystery Book 2)

DSI Michael Holmes is one of three individuals in London that started out as characters in author Sage Mathew’s book series. A year or so ago, for reasons yet unknow, Felix and Michael found themselves crossing over to our world, followed a short time later by Roark. Roark has since married and collared his creator, Sage.

Michael still isn’t sure why he was able to cross over, but he is biding his time until he gets an answer. In the meantime, he takes the time to play at Baker Street, the BDSM club in London.

Dr. Rachel Moriarty makes her living by leading small groups on customized tours of London. That’s how she met Sage, Roark, and Michael.

Now she has reached out to Scotland Yard and is referred to Holmes. Maybe the young officer sent her to him as a joke, but her problem is no joking matter. Her last tour was of Jack the Ripper’s victims home. As they left the room of his last known victim, something strange happened. Something evil..

Just remember, Jack the Ripper was never found….

I love the fun the author is having with the characters and the echoes of Sherlock Holmes. The mystery just keeps drawing me in deeper. I don’t remember who owns “Baker Street” but I enjoy the way it keeps popping up.

This book was seriously entertaining and right up there with
one of the most quirky paranormal romance book that I have
ever read. I should not have been surprised that this talented
author could send me into a spin, but she did just that and so
much more. The story was rich with imagery, complexity, and
imagination. I suggest reading book one to familiarize yourself
with the characters and their backgrounds. This is not a long
read, but it was truly entertaining and needed all my attention
to get on top of the storyline. Once I had this under control, it
was smooth sailing.

Dr Rachel Moriarty was a discrased professor now living and
working in London. She gives small private tours in the seedier
parts of London. When Rachel finds a powerful evil force trying
to harm her she is so unserved that she recruit Detective Michael
Holmes from Scotland yard to protect and solve the mystery.

Michael's attraction to Rachel was immediate. She awakened the
sleeping Dom. He realized that Rachel was deeply submissive, but
oh how she struggled. He would do anything in his power to protect
her including enlisting the help of his friends Roark and Sage. Here
is were you need to believe that a veil can exist between two worlds
and try and make sense between the unexplainable where the past
and present connect causing an electrifying conclusion.

I felt that the secondary characters played an intrinsic part and added
depth to this story. Loved the concept with it's a constant build-up and
plot development. Except the unexpected.

Advance: A Paranormal Mystery

This book has an interesting history. Originally released in the Dirty Daddies 2020 anthology, it had a definite age-play theme. Ms. James expanded the story and released it for a short time as “Best Seller”. Updated and expanded to lead a paranormal mystery series, it is now available as “Advance”.

Sage Matthews is a bestselling author of romantic suspense books featuring the hot stud Roark Samuels. She feels like she’s gotten into a bit of a “rut” with the stories, but her agent is demanding that she continue with the books. Like many plus sized ladies, she has self-confidence issues. Here of late, however, she has started to dream of Roark…

Roark has watched Sage as she worked on her laptop. He’s been with her since the beginning of her career and has watched her blossom. But now, now someone is threatening her and that’s not something he’s willing to tolerate. Once again, he examines the boundaries that imprison him. Something has changed, the boundary between him and Sage is thinning….

As readers, we don’t always remember that “Paranormal” doesn’t just mean our favorite shifters. It encompasses so much more!

Wow, did Ms. Delta James pen a unique and page-turning tale. All the jokes about book boyfriends, but in this fantastic mystery-suspense story, he won’t just be a fantasy; he will become a true hero. The story was initially released in the 2020 Dirty Daddies Anthology under the name ‘Best Seller’ and did have the daddy/little girl vibes—but not in the rewrite—which has also been expanded.

Bestselling Author, Sage Matthews, has had a great run with a series of wildly popular romantic suspense books with a hot main character, Roark Samuels. What had been meant to be a single book became a series. Each book sold more than the one before it, making her shoot to the top of the bestsellers lists. Roark Samuels was just a little bit kinkier with each book, and that worked with her readers and publisher. But Sage wants to write something new, and her publisher, Gail Vincent, is fighting her on it. A trip to a book signing in London is the last straw for these two. A nasty breakup will only be the beginning.

The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly of people. Several things have law enforcement worried about, but there is nothing concrete for them to establish who is stalking Sage—yet the threats are real and are becoming bolder. How far is a killer willing to go—from the USA across the ocean to London, England. When Sage tries to expand on her newfound freedom, it nearly cost her her life. When she comes too, she will find herself rescued by none other than her character, Roark Samuels.

“She didn’t need a keeper who would try to box her in. What she needed was a Dom—someone who would act as her protector, confidant, mentor, anchor, disciplinarian, and lover, and dominant—and she would obey and submit whether she liked it or not.”

I loved how several characters from her stories will find a crossover dimension, leave the web, and find themselves at the Savoy in London. Nothing like writing heroes and being rescued by them too.

“Don’t you die on me, Sage. Come back, do you hear me? Holmes was right, you know, you need someone to look after you, but I’m here, love. Your Master is here.”

“This guy looked exactly like she had always seen him in her head and had described him, and he acted like Roark, except for the whole Dom thing—but that wasn’t possible. Roark was someone she had created—a figment of her imagination. Or was he? the voice whispered again. Shut up! No one knew Roark was actually every hope, every dream, every fantasy she’d ever had rolled into one.”

Has she got into the head of her hero character, or has he reached into her head? Roark brings out a new dynamic that Sage never introduced in her stories, a Dom, and proving to her she is submissive. He is strict, demanding, and knows exactly what she needs---even if she doesn’t believe it.

“A book? How could this be happening? Was this all some crazy dream? Had she died? If so, was this heaven or hell? Maybe she was just in a coma and would wake—but what if she didn’t want to?”

The story has a strict, take control Dominant, matters of life and death, well-earned punishments, and sizzling hot explicit sex scenes. Best of all, it has the villain captured and new life for Sage and Roark. But that won’t be the end—this is a new series, and the next book, Negotiations, in The Paranormal Mystery, will feature another character from Sage’s bestseller books!

Sage (h) is a great character - well-rounded (in shape and personality) with all her quirks and cares and insecurities, who has written her perfect hero in Roark.

I’m so glad that there will be more of these, as I want to see more of this couple, as well as the other characters who have ‘escaped’.

Time For A Change

It’s been one of those weeks here at my house. Actually, to be honest, it’s been that way for a few weeks. RL has taken me away from doing more than just blasé book reviews for a while now.

That’s going to change. I’m tired of going back through old book series. For example, Milly Taiden’s Paranormal Dating Agency. These last few books are ones that I just can’t seem to force myself to even finish. After looking at the reviews, it looks like I’m not the only one having problems with it.

Julia Mills’s Dragon Guard is another series that I seem to have a “love-hate” relationship with. The last few books feature the MacAllen clan which is okay. It looks like she is spinning them off into a new series, Dragon Intelligence Agency. I will admit, I don’t do books with cartoon covers so there are several of her holiday Dragon Guard books that I won’t be reading.

Anna Lowe and Heather Long are another two authors that seem to be slowing down and failing to keep my interest. For both of them, their most recent series seems to be dragging on with no end in sight.

So where does that leave me???

For awhile at least, you can expect fewer actual book reviews. Delta James has several new series started that have captured my interest. The packs and families that she began in “Wayward Mates” and “Tangled Vines” have had children. The story of this next generation is being told in “Fated Legacy.” I was amused to see that a number of the clubs mentioned in these series also show up in other series by her.

I want to post a few more “Lifestyle” posts. Cooking, decorating, just general “what’s going on in my world” posts. It’s fall now and for most of country, our focus is changing. The weather is changing and there are major holidays coming up. I’d like to capitalize on those.

So stick around, and we’ll all enjoy a new phase of the journey together.

The series will be an ongoing saga, so this is your warning for those who get upset that the story does not end and consider cliffhangers or unanswered sagas an issue.

The story's plot will have Clay Waverly and Serena Clarke along with the battles they must face—before they find each other and then after. While the beginning of the book sets up these two characters, it will bring up things that happened in the previous stories and how it all falls into place using a timeline up to the present day. How Serena came to live in the area, and when Clay first sees her, knowing she is his bonded spirit.

“She was a bit like a wild mare: beautiful, intelligent, strong, and courageous, but distrustful.”

From the previous stories, for some reason, the sheriff’s office wants to place the blame for Cyrus's death on Clay—since he doesn’t have an alibi. The person he was with was shocked to learn he is a lion shifter and fled—now, she is back, and she is fierce, ready to help protect him.

“It was a lot to take in, but did it really change how she felt about him? Her heart ached at the idea that she might never see him again. Could she live with the fact that he wasn’t completely human? More to the point, could she live without him? Did she even want to?”

“Give to me, Serena. You’re mine. My mate, my bonded spirit, my everything.”

The story has the good, the bad, and the evil—and trouble is coming Clay’s way. Clay and his brothers know he can live off the land and stay safe, but not if Serena is with him. To protect others, Clay must go in hiding, and once Serena comes to terms with his shifter status, she knows that it doesn’t matter, only the love they have for each other. She will be of more help at Koyama, working with Kennedy, drafting motions and cooking, and offering her support at the ranch. But, how far will a sheriff go to get to Clay? Will he try to implicate Serena?

There are still unanswered questions surrounding the death of Cyrus and even Hannah—now Clay is arrested, being accused of murder. The plot only thickens, and new information will be revealed, along with the killer in the final book, Strong.

A fantastic installment in the Ghost Cat Canyon series! The mystery surrounding the murder of Cyrus, the much hated sire of the Waverley brothers, continues to provide some suspense and drama while the steamy relationship between Clay and Serena will fog your glasses. Of all the Waverley brother’s Clay is the only one who has had a relationship with his bonded mate for a long period of time, approximately 18 or more months. He and Serena really know each other and have developed a significant bond despite Clay’s insistence they hide their connection to keep Serena off his father’s radar.

Serena’s past includes working for Kennedy Greyson’s law firm as a paralegal and after being fired she ended up working for Earthly Spirits winery which is owned by Wolf shifters and a part of another series by the author. I love when you little Easter eggs that tie books to other works by the author or other authors. Unless you are familiar with the Tangled Vines series, you won’t even realize the significance of these other characters and it in no way impacts this story. It’s just a fun tie-in for fans of The author’s other works.

The suspenseful storyline has evolved over four books and continues to add clues for the reader to solve the mystery before answers are learned in the next book. The legal drama and paranormal elements have added to my enjoyment of this series in addition to the D/s & BDSM elements Delta always includes in her books.

I’m really looking forward to the final book in this series which will focus on Cole and Kennedy’s relationship, past and present, and bring the conclusion to the mystery of who murdered Cyrus and why.

I am a big fan of this series by Coreene Callahan. All those Dragonkind men are smoking hot! This is a side story in the series. It follows Ivy Macpherson and her journey to discovering her true mate and the history of Dragonkind.

The story was great just standing on his own. I think if you have not read the rest of the series, though, you will be a bit lost. Many things happen quickly and with seemingly no question. If you have the back story on the Dragon shifters and how they feed off the Meridian, you will enjoy this story more.

I found myself hoping to get a tie in with the Dragons in the US. I know Forge is from the Scotland but there was no mention of knowing the other group. I am hoping Ivy will somehow be helpful in the fight that is to come given her cyber hacking skills. Looking forward to reading the continuing story in this series. I feel like I have been searching and waiting forever for the next Dragonfury book by Coreene Callahan. I adored the Seattle Dragonfury team and their mates. We never did get to finish the stories, I hope this new Dragonfury team will merge or overlap with the original one. I loved the aerial fights and the extreme protectiveness of the Seattle team. Now, we have a new team on the East Coast of the USA. We never did finish with the scary European dragons and their backstabbing and cruel ways.

This story starts out with Whiz Hacker, Ivy Macpherson in a cemetery late at night. She is accosted by the FBI and another agency. Her handler in the FBI was using her and then turned on her. They have guns trained on her, she takes a step back and into the invisible arms of Tydrin, a shape shifting dragon. He gets her assent for his protection and then envelops her in his invisibility and takes off.
He discovers that not only is she super smart and talented, but a high energy female capable of fully feeding his energy needs. ( You may need to read at least the first book of the previous series to fully understand this ). He takes her back to his den and his 'brothers'. He has a terrible secret that has kept him feeling guilty for about 20 years.

I was so excited to see a new Dragonfury book! I hope that there will be many more, SOON PLEASE!

Fury of a Highland Dragon by Coreene Callahan

A Dragon finds his mate and he is lost to her allure. He will do anything to have and protect her.

A novella of a series, but can stand alone as introduction to the clan and dragon world. But know it won't answer all questions and it does leave some open issues.
A quick romance, falling in love and commitment. Romance done right.

Rich descriptive prose.
Excerpt:
He drew a deep breath hoping more oxygen would fuel his failing intellect. Frigid air rushed into his lungs. His brain reengaged, force feeding him a shovelful of common sense. A plan. He needed one...right now. Before he did something stupid like scare the everliving shite out of the female. Not the best way if he wanted to get close. And oh how he yearned to, 'cause...aye. Now that he'd seen her he wanted to know how she would taste. How she would fit in his arms, how it would feel to be fed by such powerful energy. The thought crying to him tighter. Excitement skittered down his spine. Tydrin tightened the leash on his control. He didn't want to frighten her. The moment he did, she'd run scared, and he'd lose his chance.
But even as he cemented his plan of attack, temptation urged him to drop his invisibility spell, step up behind her, and grab hold. Take her home. Love her well."

I can't believe it took me so long to read this book! Its been on my list for awhile and I finally got to it! This was very short compared to her others. Didnt pack as much punch but I still enjoyed it. I was a little lost as first since its been awhile since I read Fury of Obsession. It started to come back to me though. I know she's getting ready to release another in a bit and wanted to catch up!

Ivy has been accused of espionage but nobody will listen to her. She goes back to her hometown only to be found. However, someone she never expects rescues her and she is so drawn to him that it totally freaks her the heck out so much she loses all control of her breathing. She's got scarred lungs which is bad and she passes out. What will she do now?

Tydrin has a lot of guilt and self loathing. Knowing he's responsible for ruining lives 20 years ago. He's a good guy but has just forced himself down such dire guilt and darkness. Until he sees her. A HE (High Energy) female. He's never seen or felt one of fed off one. He's gotta have her and help her at the same time. He can't make up his mind but he just cant walk away. Once he knows who she is he knows he'll lose her once she finds out what he did.

Quick read and very sexy. Question is will Ivy still want him? Can Tydrin be what Ivy needs and not desert her and love and care for her?

Wow this was good. Cash is like the macho nerd of the group. He knows how to run his ranch and now someone else’s ranch but he is also man enough or should I say Lion enough to back up his _hit. He lets Evie know from the start he was in charge and he wasn’t taking any crap from anyone. I am so looking forward to the next book in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars THERE'S A NEW LION IN CHARGE
Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2021
The series will be an ongoing saga, so for those who get upset that the story does not end and consider cliffhangers or unanswered sagas an issue—this is your warning.

The story's plot will have Cash Waverly meeting Genevieve' Evie’ LaSalle about buying a prized bull known as River Run Royal. While selling the bull is the last resort, unless they sell off land, it isn’t something that has Evie happy, but without the sale, River Run will foreclose. Cash is floored when he meets Evie, realizing that she is his bonded spirit. With this new fact, knowing the situation her ranch is in, his offer will change.

Cash: “I’ll give you an even million which will pay off your note entirely. I will give you enough straws to impregnate your Japanese Black and heritage herd of Black Angus for the next three years.
Evie: “Cash, I don’t know what to say.”
Cash: “Before you decide that everyone is wrong and I’m some kind of benign white knight in shining armor, there is one more thing I want from River Run.”
Evie: “Name it, and it’s yours.”
Cash: “You.”
Evie: “Exactly what is your proposal?”
Cash: “The rest of this lifetime and all the ones to follow.”

Cash: “The money had nothing to do with it. I would have found a way to claim you, Evie. You are my bonded spirit. I not only got the bull and the girl but the ranch as well.”
Evie: “I’m not so sure you made a very good bargain. The bull is amazing, the ranch is knee-deep in debt, and I’m told the she-cat is a bit—“

The relationship between Cash and Evie sizzles with passion. He doesn’t force the issue, and she comes to him, willingly submitting and accepting his claim as bonded spirits, along with his dominance. His worth is proven when he agrees to stay and help out River Run, keeping her at home and supporting her claw. He isn’t afraid to discipline or love her, and they are well-matched in the steamy sex department. Not only will Evie accept his leadership, but those of her claw will.

The story has the good, the bad, and the evil of people/shifters. It will have Cash and Evie finding each other—where he recognizes them as bonded spirits. His original plans will change, River Run, along with Evie, needs him and his leadership, and now that he has angered rivals at Flying Aces, he will need reinforcements from Koyama. With danger coming, an insider will be found aiding the enemy and be evicted. There are still unanswered questions surrounding the death of Cyrus and even Hannah—now Clay is in hiding, being accused of murder. The plot only thickens, and new information will be revealed in the following book, Fearless.

“Until now, it had never occurred to her that Cash was feeling his way through this. He’d come to buy a bull. Now he was mated, head of a dysfunctional claw, and involved in a range war.”

4.0 out of 5 stars Wild in both human and animal form

“Bold” is the second book in the Ghost Cat Canyon paranormal series by Delta James. The series is an ongoing saga, so this book does not end with a complete resolution. I believe you can enjoy this one if you haven’t yet read the first book because the author does a good job laying things out. The series focuses on the four Waverly brothers - Cade, Cash, Cole, and Clay, who are lion shifters.

Cash visits River Run because he wants to purchase a prized bull for his own family ranch. The people at River Run are also lion shifters. There, he meets Evie LaSalle, the young woman who owns River Run. Her father neglected to properly care for the ranch and at this point unless they either sell off land or the prized bull, the bank is going to foreclose. When Cash meets her in person, he immediately realizes they have a spirit bond. The chemistry between Cash and Evie is intense. He’s a dominant alpha but the relationship between them is ultimately consensual. In the following conversation, hard-edged Cash is almost poetic:

Cash: “Before you decide that everyone is wrong and I’m some kind of benign white knight in shining armor, there is one more thing I want from River Run.”
Evie: “Name it, and it’s yours.”
Cash: “You.”
Evie: “Exactly what is your proposal?”
Cash: “The rest of this lifetime and all the ones to follow.”

He’s a noble guy and a noble lion, a combination of assertive and kind of sweet. Evie is a smart and beautiful she-cat. She’s honest with herself as she finds unexpected satisfaction in a D/s relationship behind closed doors with Cash. He treats her with respect, and as a partner in the ranch.

I don’t want to go into much more about the plot because as I mentioned, it’s ongoing and to be continued in the next book, ‘Fearless.’ The overall story is a solid one and the personal relationships are dynamic. There is plenty of drama and intrigue, loyalty and betrayal, interesting secondary characters and possible paths for the future. There’s also some lighthearted banter to provide just enough counterpoint and levity. I’m very much looking forward to the next book in this series.
