Strong: Ghost Cat Canyon Book 5

The exciting conclusion to Ghost Cat Canyon!

I won’t let my mate slip away again.

I will have to use all my intelligence training to solve the murder of my father and clear my brother’s name. My brother hired Kennedy Greyson, lawyer extraordinaire and my bonded spirit, to defend the family.

We have a past neither wants to admit to, much less try to fix. I move in a shadowy world that frightens and repulses her. But she knows the core of the man she’s fallen in love with is honorable and worthy.

As a human, she is unaware of the existence of shifters. She must work her way through the mire of small-town jurisprudence and her own feelings to solve not only the whodunit of Cyrus’s murder but the secrets that lie at the heart of Looking Glass Falls deceptions.

I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t read mysteries. So it shouldn’t surprise anyone for me to admit that I did not see the ending coming. Okay, let me rephrase that, we all knew the killer would be exposed. I just didn’t expect “who” the killer of Cyrus was.

We also learn who killed Hannah in the first place. A few other unexplained deaths are solved. Also, an unexpected type of shifter is revealed. All in all, a very enjoyable series conclusion!

And apparently so do great series. This amazing author managed to write books that while complete as far as each couple is concerned had an overlaying storyline that had me guessing whodunit from start to finish. Yes I was slapping my forehead for not figuring it out sooner, but put it down to being so captivated by the chemistry of each couple that it was hard to think coherently. Fabulous paranormal/shifter read with enough twists and turns to please any mystery/suspense buff.

The series has been an ongoing saga revolving around a murder, one that will conclude with Strong. The sons of Cyrus and Hannah Waverly, Cade, Cash, Cole, and Clay, will each be involved in the storylines. The series is a paranormal shifter tale with steamy heat and power exchange and includes dubious consent and consent. The story is full of action, adventure, danger, mystery, suspense, passion, romance with a dominant man and a woman who loves him enough to acquiesce and submit.

“He tried to tell himself he’d taken no pleasure in what he’d done, but that was a lie. There was a primitive, feral satisfaction that came from having served justice so completely.”

Strong is the final book in this fantastic murder/mystery/suspense series, and the killer of the much-hated Cyrus Waverly will be revealed. BUT, this story is so much more than that—it is full of motives, secrets, greed, and best of all, the passion between two people—former lovers who have been apart for seven years. Yes, this will bring Cole Waverly and Kennedy Greyson together. She is the high-powered defense attorney hired to represent Clay Waverly. It isn’t an easy or fast reunion because there is plenty of angst and anger in her.

The story’s plot gave this avid reader everything I wanted in the final story—continuing along the murder-mystery-whodunit and the heated relationship between Cole and Kennedy. There are so many people in line to see the demise of Cyrus—I don’t think he had any friends, no one to mourn his death; if anything, they toasted his end. But, someone is trying to frame Clay—the only one of the four sons without an alibi. It will be up to Kennedy to protect her client—and even his family when the heat is on. Cyrus was in bed with the wrong people, and the Waverly family and Koyama have their enemies—but was it enough for murder? The one thing that Kennedy nor Cole was expecting was each other—but now that they are together, he is determined that it will be forever.

“It’s all right, Kennedy. No one will know I was here, not tonight or any of the other nights until you’re ready to tell them. But, make no mistake, Kennedy Greyson, you’re mine and this time nothing and no one will take you from me.”

The story has a back history of Kennedy and Cole—back during their military days, and it even comes with the good, bad, and ugly of situations. Secrets because of military clearances, lies from superiors, and the fallout will all play their part in this tale. But Cole is a man who has known that she is his bonded spirit—there will be no other—and now that she is at Koyama, he doesn’t plan on losing her again. How will he share with her his secret, and once she learns he is a cat shifter, how will she react? What does their future hold?

“If I don’t get to feel guilty about our past, neither do you.”

Kennedy: You do know I’m on your side and at some point, I’m going to need to talk to him, right?
Trey: No one’s trying to exclude you.
Kennedy: I know you think you’re protecting me and him, but you aren’t. They will get a proper search warrant for the ranch and bring out a team.
Cole: Who will never find him. I’m telling you, Grey, if he doesn’t want to be found, he won’t be.

“Soon, he was going to have to lay all his cards on the table. He’d lost her once to a pack of lies, deceptions, and half-truths, he wasn’t going to do it again.”

The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly of people—even people who should be upholding the law instead of remaking it because of getting in bed with the devil. Several murders or suspicious deaths in a small town can’t be coincidental—and it isn’t. Money, greed, hatred, power, and control all play their role—but was it enough to kill? How far will the enemy go to get what they want? Threatening the land, the lives, and the livelihood? I will have to say that I liked the powerhouse of Kennedy Greyson, and the chemistry between Cole and her is the perfect blend of dominance and submission, control and surrender, and erotic passion. Even one final secret doesn’t scare her away—she embraces it.

“How about this time we choose together and choose us?”

BTW, when the killer is finally revealed, it all makes perfect sense! I would love to see another book—or novella for the four Waverly brothers and their bonded spirit to have their weddings.
