This is a good book, the story was well developed and I love Joanna who gives a new element to the plot. Suddenly Dean discovers he has a daughter and girlfriend/wife and this is an unexpected development which gives some idea of what could be happening in the future. The writing could be tighter but the primary goal of every writer has been met - as a reader I wanted to see what happened next and have bought the next 2 books in the series to find out. This series is good and I recommend it for anyone who wants to read a good paranormal adventure.

I really enjoyed this series & have read all the books so far, including the prequel. I live in Maryland, so, of course, appreciate the locale. Also, I'm a retired RN, working the last 16 years of my career in the operating room, and, unlike other readers, don't mind the medical information included in the storyline. The whole concept of a special medical team for "unusuals" is original and whets my appetite for more.
The paranormal characters are interesting and he adds new ones to each book. I also appreciate the absence of long, drawn-out, explicit sex scenes. There are certainly romantic interests, but nothing as in some other books.
Good work, Jamie, waiting for the next installment.

I love the way the characters are being developed in his stories, can't wait for the next one. Great action, very accurate medical knowledge obviously required to write it. No surprise then, that the author appears well qualified. Only one complaint, a problem I see with many of the Indie books I read, and the reason for four instead of five stars. The author desperately needs a good proof reader, many errors. Story still very readable, but errors are irritating and distracting.

Touch of Destiny: Fated Legacy Book 5

This is such a fantastic ending to the series. Piper and Remy have known what they are to each other for years. Unfortunately a decision he made when they were both much younger has come back to bite him. This plays out almost as a “Second Chance” romance. The only question is if they will get that second chance before the Darkness comes for them.

My life has always been lived on my own terms.

I’ve known all my life that my fated mate was Rémy Gautier, the son of the Alpha of New Orleans, but he walked away from me a long time ago.

Now, he’s come back wanting me to fall into his bed and share with him the one thing that has kept the Wolf Meadow pack strong and distinct—the secret of the ancient dire wolves.

The Darkness has returned ready to obliterate the one thing it hates most—Rémy’s pack. With the help of an elemental sorceress, can we turn the tide and destroy the Darkness once and for all?

Touch of Destiny is a supernatural romance with steamy heat in and out of the bedroom for mature readers. A second chance romance that includes a she-wolf who knows who she wants, a stubborn fated mate and an evil that wants to destroy their destiny.

Another great series comes to an end. Remy finally claimed his fated mate Piper. At first Remy believed he had nothing to offer Piper that is why he left to become a Navy Seal leaving behind a broken heart Piper. But loved won out in the end. As they defeated the darkness that was set on destroying Remy’s family. Great story. I enjoyed this series very much. It was great to read about the parents in the Wayward Mate and the Tangled Vines series but to read about the children all grown up and finding their fated mates just makes you go aww 🥰. Great job Delta James.

5.0 out of 5 stars TEXAS COWGIRL AND NEW ORLEANS SEAL
Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2022
The series is an ongoing saga, and this is the sixth and final story. I love that we see the next generation—the offspring of those from Wayward Mates and Tangled Vines—but we also get to catch up with the couples from the first two series. The story begins in 2028 with seven-year-old Piper Nichols and her mother chatting about her abilities and love of the ranch land. It picks up in 2039, she is grown up, and they are at a party where Rémy Gautier is preparing to leave and go into the Navy as a SEAL. Both Piper and Rémy know they are fated mates, but they are young, and he leaves anyway, leaving Piper broken-hearted and determined not to let another male wolf hurt her. The main story takes place in 2048 and moves around the globe.

“Sometimes, a clever she-wolf will not show all she can do. Keep something in reserve that no one knows about in case you ever need it.”

“Make him sweat, make him work to earn your love. Then, if you still feel about him the way I think you do, graciously forgive him and hold it over his head for the rest of his life.”

As this series saga has unfolded, it is a battle of good versus darkness. The Darkness is returning to New Orleans, growing more powerful, and intended to destroy the Gautier family. With the joining of so many fated mates, and unique abilities and powers, they are preparing for a final battle, one they must win. First, the last two unmated children, Rémy Gautier and Piper Nichols must take their vows, but Piper has been hurt, bitter, and angry. She won’t just lie down and accept her fate easily; she is determined that Rémy needs to pay for the pain and heartache he caused her. She runs from him—but he follows her.

“On a good day, Piper was the sexiest she-wolf that ever walked the face of the earth, but when she fought dirty, oh yeah, that really did it for him. It meant he could unleash his own beast to claim her. She was his perfect mate—the yin to his yang, the soft to his hard.”

The story’s plot is the relationship between Rémy and Piper, but it is also how the various couples must pull together to overcome The Darkness, not just to slow it down but to destroy it for good. It is plotting and planning, and it will include several couples to make it happen. One, being, Rémy, and Piper. Timing and unity are crucial for it to happen.

I loved the chemistry between Rémy and Piper—they both know they are fated mates, yet it is a decade before they get together. Piper was hurt and has held onto that anger of rejection that Rémy must work through. Once she knows he is here to stay, he isn’t leaving her and even accepts her help; they find happiness.

Rémy: I am the wolf who was born to take you in hand.
Piper: And what does that make me?
Rémy: The she-wolf who was born to rule my heart and soul.

The good, the bad, and the evil finalize this last book in the series. As we all know will happen, Good wins over Darkness, but it is because of unity and love. I don’t know if Ms. Delta James will do another spin-off from this series, but a few things within the story gives this reader hope that she will.

“I am here, my beloved. I will always be here.

Just with different problems and abilities. The characters are so real you cry for the losses and smile at the victories both big and small. And it is so informative about the realities of a paramedics job. You feel yourself walk beside them as they go to care for their patients. I am truly looking forward to the next books!!

The Paramedics Choice

Fantasy worlds allow authors to write about the good and the bad in the world in a way that doesn't get directly in people faces.

I waited patiently for this volume of Jamie's world to come out. As a long time fantasy science fiction reader the paramedics choice was pretty obvious from the opening pages. That did nothing to detract from the enjoyable read as we watched how the paramedic got to that choice. Watching how people can overcome their prejudices at the same time seeing how others can be destroyed by their prejudices. All set in a world of EMS that I am so familiar with.

Keep it up Jamie.

This is the second book in the Series. The story and premise are good, but this is not a stand alone novel - and neither are the others in the series - nor are they novella's because they do not have any type of resolution. Each book is more like an installment or several chapters in a serial. I read this book in under 2 hours. Because it is a short installment in a serial it gets very annoying to have the Author retelling part of the previous story the same way that must be done for honest to goodness stand alone novels in a series. That retelling takes up a good portion of this part of the series, therefore seems like padding.

* * * SPOILERS BELOW * * *

The story itself is unique and interesting, however it is taking a turn for the 'MarySue' as the hero finds himself the object of an Angel's affection - the highest in the 'unusual' or supernatural pecking order. The author certainly knows a great deal about being a Paramedic, and this twist in the horror/Sci Fi Genre is a new one. But to be honest I could do without all the very detailed descriptions of a paramedic's work - that was great in the first installment of the series but now it seems a little tedious.

Don't expect there to be any resolution at the end of this book, you must move on with the serial. And it's not a cliff hanger either, it 'ends' just like the end of another chapter

Dean is moving along in his probationary status as a newbie. He is learning more everyday. One of the highlights of his learning is delivering his first baby. We also meet some more people in the series. Soon good...some bad. Dean also meets his Endara or angel and also his girlfriend, Ashley. She is instrumental in getting Dean and James to accept each other and become better friends.
We also start hearing more and more about "The Cause". The Cause is a hatred group who are determined to harm and kill all Unusuals. We also learn that Mike, Dean's mentor, is one of the leaders of The Cause. Brynne is finally convinced that Mike is not the person she believed him to be. Towards the end of the book, violence against Dean and Ashley is intensified and James and Brynne convince them to move into James apartment building for their own safety. As we get deeper into the series, the medical focus is beginning to give way to intrigue and even murder. This should please those that weren't as happy with all the medical description. I still think that in a time when health care is a national focus that setting these novels against a medical backdrop is nothing short of brilliant. Surely there is some connection between the underserved population and the undisguised hate crimes of the books and the real tensions in our nation. Hopefully, we will choose to be Dean and Brynne and not Zach and Mike during the national tensions. I look forward to seeing how the situation resolves in this ongoing series.

The Joy of “Connected” Series

If you don’t know by now, you should. I love book series. I started very young when I first stumbled upon The Black Stallion series by Walter Farley. This series ignited my love of books. It also led me to other short book series.

Somewhere along the line, I started reading “The Dragonriders of Pern” series by Anne McCaffrey. Between what Ms. McCaffrey has written, and the ones written by her son, Todd McCaffrey, this series currently stands at 25 books. Ms. McCaffrey has written several other series, but it seems that none of them connect to the others in any way.

Anna Lowe has also written several series, Twin Moon Ranch, Blue Moon Saloon, Aloha Shifters: Jewels of the Heart, Aloha Shifters: Pearls of Desire, and Billionaires and Bodyguards. While characters from one series are mentioned in the next, there is no real interplay between the two. So not exactly what I call “connected.”

So what do I mean by “Connected?”

I’m going to use the books of Delta James as my examples. Her books were what started me on this quest. Ms. James has written a number of series, some of which are obviously connected, others are not so obviously connected.

A prevalent theme throughout her books is the Dominant/submissive (D/s) theme. Keep that in mind during this discussion. There are things and places mentioned in almost all of her books that are tied to other books. This is the type of connection I am talking about.

In the Wayward Mates series, we are introduced to 9 strong-willed she-wolves (women) and the males who love them. I would say “alphas” but Nick from Claiming His Mate isn’t an alpha, he’s the pack Beta. None of these couples embrace the D/s dynamic but Marco DeMedici and the Florence pack own the club, Dante’s, in Florence, Italy. We learn this little fact in “In Vino Veritas

The next series is “Tangled Vines” and its Prequel, “Corked.” In the prequel is where the brothers, Damien and Linc Steele, buy the small boutique hotel and famed BDSM club, Torch Light” to renovate. Linc and his mate, Grace live a D/s life 24/7. Damian meets his mate in Uncorked with the help of Marco Demedici. As the series continues onward, more couples embrace the D/s dynamic in their lives. We also see them crossing paths and pursuing connections with the alphas from Wayward Mates.

Fated Legacy is a series that introduces us to the adult children of the couples from both Wayward Mates and Tangled Vines. Set 40 years after the two series, the new generation battles an evil force called the “Darkness” thought to have been vanquished by Jean Lafitte, the original alpha of the New Orleans pack. In this series, we are taken to the London club, Baker Street.

Now, I had to check this out and actually ask Ms James, but it turns out that Baker Street is owned by the Cerebus Group from Mercenary Masters! This is actually the first club in the group. You may or may not be surprised to find out that this group are all humans. Nevertheless, the players freely interact in each other’s series.

This club also features prominently in the current series, Masters of the Savoy. As a side note, the opening story, “Advance” has an interesting history. It began life as a story in the 2020 anthology Dirty Daddies. Expanded and rereleased as Best Seller, it was once again re-edited and found its place as the opening story in this paranormal mystery series.

The final set of connections that I’ve traced is to the stories of “Alpha Lords.” This series is set in the post-apocalyptic future and feature the packs of Calon ‘Onest and Ravenscar, among others.

It’s the many connections like these that keep my mind interested and involved with a story. See what connections you can find in your favorite series!

When Saoirse begins to question those who have kept the secret for more than a century, she unknowingly sets off a course of events that will prove Felix right.
~~~
Welcome to the opulent world of the Masters of the Savoy, where the men and women might be a little different – more than human. The men appeared out of nowhere one day determined to grab life and look for love. But watch out … you never know what darkness lurks in the shadows.
The more I read by this author, the more I find myself appreciating the sheer amount of research that she puts into each book. She researches not only the places, but the people as well. With this fourth book in the series, we are introduced to yet another historical figure. While the prince doesn’t appear himself, other historical characters from around him do. It’s fabulous.
5.0 out of 5 stars THE IRISH WITCH AND THE SAVOY CONCIERGE
Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2021
Ms. Delta James has penned a unique and page-turning series of paranormal events and characters that intersect with historical events. The story will have people from the previous books, but this one will mainly focus on Saoirse Madigan, an Irish witch, and Felix Spenser, the head concierge of the Savoy. The story is the fourth in the series, and while it could be read as a stand-alone, it would be better understood by reading the first three books in the series.
Saoirse has been in London, where she felt that she was needed, and she was, helping free Anne Boelyn from her state of limbo at the Tower of London. During her time in London, she stays at the Savoy, where she has become friends with Felix, and others that either work or live at the Savoy. There is a flirtation between Saoirse and Felix, who she would prefer to call Spense, for some time, but in this story, they will take things from friends to lovers. Spense is dominant, and while Saorise isn’t naïve to a dominant-submissive relationship, she had a very negative experience with her ex-husband. Her complete trust in Spense will turn her feelings around about a D/s relationship.
Saoirse: I’m not your sub or romantic partner.
Spense: Not at the moment, but the future is rarely static.
The story’s plot will revolve around the Savoy ghost, a young girl wearing a yellow dress that would fit the Victorian era. Saoirse has encountered the ghost since she was a young child, but now she will speak to Saoirse with a riddle.
“They did not search for those who died;
The chapel bell did not knell;
When the Irish witch can answer why,
Then our spirits will arise from Hell
And with the King of Kings we will abide.”
The story will have the four couples working on the history and trying to determine who the little girl is, how she died, why she is trapped on Earth, and how Saoirse can free her. But it turns out; it isn’t one little girl; it is five, and evil surrounds their demise.
The story is also about the newly formed relationship between Spense and Saoirse, where she is learning that not all men are like her ex. Spense is dominant but loving, showing her D/s isn’t about him, but them. Saoirse knows that Spense, Gabe, and Roark all came from the pages of Sage’s well-known novels, but then Anne was a Queen. The relationships between the four couples are strong, and they each have faced some form of terror. Saoirse will be a catalyst for helping innocent souls find their peace in the Light. Can she use her magick and powers for good and help banish evil?
Spense: Perhaps I’m the man who came through the Veil to protect you so you could work your magick.
Saoirse: I think you’re right about your fate. I think you came through the Veil to protect me. I’m awfully glad I am your destiny.
“She’d been waiting her whole life for him to step out of a manuscript and become her perfect lover.”
The story has matters of life and death due to paranormal entities, a strict, take control Dominant, some punishments, and sizzling hot explicit sex scenes. It does not end on a cliffhanger but gives the reader a satisfying conclusion. And it won’t be the end in this series; there are at least two more books.
Extreme Medical Services: Paramedics for Supernatural Creatures
More years ago than I care to remember, I read a series about a hospital in space called Sector General. It was fantastic and ran to a number of books in the series. This book greatly puts me in mind of that series. For me, it helps answers a number of questions that run along the lines of how does our government systems cope with the medical needs of paranormal creatures living among us? This author has chosen to call them “Unusuals” and does a wonderful job of explaining what happens if they need to call 911! I’m looking forward to reading more in this series!
The premise is interesting and different from any other sci-fi fantasy that I've read lately. So good idea. Typical plot - young hero plunged into a new world he didn't know existed. All fine. But for me the book falls short in two areas: it reads more like an EMT textbook that a novel. Way too much information on drugs and procedures. Too little on the characters, their personalities, motivations and plot. And second, I hate cliff hangers! I don't need everything resolved by the end of the book, but don't drop a major plot twist on the last two pages, expecting I'll buy the next book in the series to find out what happened. If the story is strong, and I like the characters I'll buy the next one. If not, I won't. A cliff hanger ending just irritates the reader.
For the most part I liked this book. It has an original and interesting premise and a take on "Unusual" people that I found appealing. The characters are adequately developed, even if Dean seems to some readers to be excessively uncertain. If I had found out suddenly and shockingly that the entire world was different from what I had always believed, I might well be somewhat unsure myself. I also liked the information provided about Emergency Medical Care and the roles of Paramedics and their work in Ambulance Services. I enjoy books that teach me something new while simultaneously entertaining me. And this work succeeded on both levels. Given all of the above, I might have given the book Four Stars, had it not been for the ending.
I should not even call it an ending. This novel does not conclude; it merely stops. Yes, one secret is revealed at the end of the book, but I found that a completely inadequate ending. As a result the entire book reads as Part One of a larger novel, rather than as a story complete in itself. Nothing at all is resolved here, and I very much resent feeling that I must buy the rest of the series to find out anything that results.
The switch in main character from the prequel threw me a bit I will admit. Trying to see all the "weird" from a masculine view of the newest member of the paramedic team was really interesting. The blurb sets up the story perfectly.
Follow along as Dean learns he is not "superman" when something goes wrong. The concepts of emergency personnel needing emotional support for trauma is just now being recognized. It is about time. The author handled this delicate subject with a clear view and honesty that was refreshing. Yes there is a mystery running through the story. I found the interactions of the characters to be adult and realistic.
Did I like the book? Yep, bought the next 2 books. Found myself another really cool author.
Interesting tale but there are some holes in the story. Dane has some problems and contacts his old supervisor for Help. Hes told hes at a convention out of town. But hes actually a part of a Terrorist group. That trying to recruit him. So why send an unknown person to recruit him instead of the guy he already trust. That's a hole. Also if James is such a good guy and why is it ok he's willing to mess with his partner's memory. And why doesn't she care he believes it's so easy. Hes already proven hes going to break his word to her because she doesn't matter. Hes proven his word only matters to other supernaturals. Humans aren't worth him keeping his promise. In the end the book is worth reading but don't expect a masterpiece.
Whether you’re already aware of your personal biases or recognize the need for further exploration into how you (and your company) relate to others, consider these resources, courtesy of Book Reviews by the Reluctant Retiree.
Pick Up a Good Book
Reading is an excellent way to explore leadership topics at your own pace. When you consider how confronting some topics can be, it may be ideal to start your journey with a less confrontational format of learning. The following books are helpful resources, regardless of where you are in your journey to uncovering and addressing complex workplace issues:
  • Dive into the topic of hidden prejudice and racial issues in America (and elsewhere) with Jennifer L. Eberhardt Ph.D.
  • Discover ways you can work toward fighting bias in your personal (and professional) life with Dolly Chugh.
  • Extend your exploration of bias as it relates to your leadership responsibilities in the workplace.
Learn from Others
When it comes to organizational efforts, diversity is a crucial strategy for growth and progress. But implementing diversity in your workplace or among your team can be a challenge. Opening your mind to others’ experiences and how organizations approach diversity can guide your own actions.
  • Approach others’ experiences with an open mind and a flexible perspective.
  • Read up on recognizing the bias ecosystem and how it impacts your perceptions of — and actions at — the workplace.
  • Understand why many diversity programs fail and how to circumvent those issues in your organization.
Embrace Interactive Learning
Books and articles are a helpful way to begin exploring challenging topics. But an interactive course or experience could serve as the next step in the process of recognizing and changing your personal and professional perceptions. From more general courses in business to specific training for the reduction of biased behavior in the workplace, consider these options:
  • Consider whether an online education may provide the opportunity to improve leadership skills at your own pace without disrupting your current career path.
  • Explore resources to help you become more conscious of unintentionally harmful hiring practices — and avoid them.
Leadership is less a goal and more of a journey, as these resources prove. Throughout your experiences as the leader of a team or organization, you’ll encounter many opportunities for improvement and enlightenment. A mindset toward growth is perhaps the most crucial resource for true leaders.
