Fabulous! The entire series is wonderful. I am sitting here at 5AM wondering just how long I have to wait for the next book in the Paramedic series. I read all 3 series by Jamie Davis in 3-1/2 days & now have nothing left to read. I have normal run of the mill books left. Nothing has moved me as much as this series & the Eldara series. They are separate series, but if you want more, they are the seasonings on the dish, so to speak.
It is captivating from the first page. Probably the best books/series I have read in the last year. Seriously, cannot wait to see what happens next. Will the vampire finally be finished? What about Dean & Jaz? How will the U squad handle having a Paramedic Vampire in charge? Will Freddy stay at the station safe & cooking up 4 star meals? When & where does the daughter pop in again? How will mom & dad handle that?
So many possibilities, so many questions.

What is happening in Elk City? The dead are turning into zombies and have no control. The same thing is happening to newly turned vampires. Dean, Jaz and James find out that Artur is back! What is he trying to do? That is the question they must find out the answer to.
We are also introduced to some more Unusuals...mummies and banished to name a few. All told the Paramedics at Station U are in for some serious workouts. Jamie Davis gives us more clues to Dean's true identity and I can't wait until the next book is out.

I fair but shouted for joy with this one. Frustrated at the return of one character, overjoyed at the development of the relationship between Dean and Jaz but most of all great to see Byrne back around and taking a far bigger part in the story. The dynamics have changed so much but at the same time the bigger picture is coming into play. It was sad to see that even in fear the old prejudices and reactive measures come out in force. I am so happy to see Dean building on the basis he got from the last book. I cannot wait to see what happens next. Stop with the big teasers already!

Davis as a medic and RN, like myself, so of course I love this series! It drives me crazy when Medical terminology, protocol, and procedures are incorrect. Not only is he correct, he teaches the non-medical reader. He infuses humanity into non-humans in this series. Truly enjoyed his creativity in tearing the Unusual population. This book shows how life makes turns you may never expect.

The characters are so real (yes, I said real), I feel they are all friends and I am eager to continue following their adventures. Mr Davis has blended so many topics into the novels without blurring any if them. Thank you

This is a good book, the story was well developed and I love Joanna who gives a new element to the plot. Suddenly Dean discovers he has a daughter and girlfriend/wife and this is an unexpected development which gives some idea of what could be happening in the future. The writing could be tighter but the primary goal of every writer has been met - as a reader I wanted to see what happened next and have bought the next 2 books in the series to find out. This series is good and I recommend it for anyone who wants to read a good paranormal adventure.

I really enjoyed this series & have read all the books so far, including the prequel. I live in Maryland, so, of course, appreciate the locale. Also, I'm a retired RN, working the last 16 years of my career in the operating room, and, unlike other readers, don't mind the medical information included in the storyline. The whole concept of a special medical team for "unusuals" is original and whets my appetite for more.
The paranormal characters are interesting and he adds new ones to each book. I also appreciate the absence of long, drawn-out, explicit sex scenes. There are certainly romantic interests, but nothing as in some other books.
Good work, Jamie, waiting for the next installment.

I love the way the characters are being developed in his stories, can't wait for the next one. Great action, very accurate medical knowledge obviously required to write it. No surprise then, that the author appears well qualified. Only one complaint, a problem I see with many of the Indie books I read, and the reason for four instead of five stars. The author desperately needs a good proof reader, many errors. Story still very readable, but errors are irritating and distracting.

The Fae village is firebomed, causing many deaths. Finally, Gibbie the vampire is kidnapped after the CERT team is done helping at the firebombing.

Events are escalating and Dean, James and Rudy are trying to keep things under control. Finally, a lead as to where Gibbie is being held. I can't tell you anymore as I don't want to spoil the story for you. But...I can tell you this, the author, Jamie Davis, has put in a surprise ending that only Dean can solve. This is a continuation of this fascinating book series. I find myself caught up in this wonderfully visualized world of humans and Unusuals. The way tolerance and acceptance are presented alongside bigotry and hate with true acceptance and understanding that they are all people with lives and families. Just with different problems and abilities. The characters are so real you cry for the losses and smile at the victories both big and small. And it is so informative about the realities of a paramedics job. You feel yourself walk beside them as they go to care for their patients. I am truly looking forward to the next books!!

The Paramedics Choice

Fantasy worlds allow authors to write about the good and the bad in the world in a way that doesn't get directly in people faces.

I waited patiently for this volume of Jamie's world to come out. As a long time fantasy science fiction reader the paramedics choice was pretty obvious from the opening pages. That did nothing to detract from the enjoyable read as we watched how the paramedic got to that choice. Watching how people can overcome their prejudices at the same time seeing how others can be destroyed by their prejudices. All set in a world of EMS that I am so familiar with.

Keep it up Jamie.

The Paramedic’s Angel (Extreme Medical Services Book 2)

Book Blurb:

One Paramedic and His Guardian Angel

Paramedic Dean Flynn is finally getting used to his Unusual ambulance patients. But with werewolves, vampires, fairies, and more as his 911 patients, is he ready for an Unusual in his personal life?

Ashley Moore is not just an ER nurse, she is a heavenly angel on earth. Can she protect Dean and help him stop the hate crime attacks on his patients? Someone is determined to start a race war and only Dean stands in the way.

The story continues on! The more I read this series, the more I see the expertise of its author coming through. The sheer attention to detail is phenomenal.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a Novel - an installment in a serial.

This is the second book in the Series. The story and premise are good, but this is not a stand alone novel - and neither are the others in the series - nor are they novella's because they do not have any type of resolution. Each book is more like an installment or several chapters in a serial. I read this book in under 2 hours. Because it is a short installment in a serial it gets very annoying to have the Author retelling part of the previous story the same way that must be done for honest to goodness stand alone novels in a series. That retelling takes up a good portion of this part of the series, therefore seems like padding.

* * * SPOILERS BELOW * * *

The story itself is unique and interesting, however it is taking a turn for the 'MarySue' as the hero finds himself the object of an Angel's affection - the highest in the 'unusual' or supernatural pecking order. The author certainly knows a great deal about being a Paramedic, and this twist in the horror/Sci Fi Genre is a new one. But to be honest I could do without all the very detailed descriptions of a paramedic's work - that was great in the first installment of the series but now it seems a little tedious.

Don't expect there to be any resolution at the end of this book, you must move on with the serial. And it's not a cliff hanger either, it 'ends' just like the end of another chapter

Dean is moving along in his probationary status as a newbie. He is learning more everyday. One of the highlights of his learning is delivering his first baby. We also meet some more people in the series. Soon good...some bad. Dean also meets his Endara or angel and also his girlfriend, Ashley. She is instrumental in getting Dean and James to accept each other and become better friends.
We also start hearing more and more about "The Cause". The Cause is a hatred group who are determined to harm and kill all Unusuals. We also learn that Mike, Dean's mentor, is one of the leaders of The Cause. Brynne is finally convinced that Mike is not the person she believed him to be. Towards the end of the book, violence against Dean and Ashley is intensified and James and Brynne convince them to move into James apartment building for their own safety. The author, Jamie Davis, gives us more insight into the life of paramedics and how they do their duties while building up drama in his continuing story. I can wait to read the next book in the series

As we get deeper into the series, the medical focus is beginning to give way to intrigue and even murder. This should please those that weren't as happy with all the medical description. I still think that in a time when health care is a national focus that setting these novels against a medical backdrop is nothing short of brilliant. Surely there is some connection between the underserved population and the undisguised hate crimes of the books and the real tensions in our nation. Hopefully, we will choose to be Dean and Brynne and not Zach and Mike during the national tensions. I look forward to seeing how the situation resolves in this ongoing series.

Extreme Medical Services: Paramedics for Supernatural Creatures

More years ago than I care to remember, I read a series about a hospital in space called Sector General. It was fantastic and ran to a number of books in the series. This book greatly puts me in mind of that series. For me, it helps answers a number of questions that run along the lines of how does our government systems cope with the medical needs of paranormal creatures living among us? This author has chosen to call them “Unusuals” and does a wonderful job of explaining what happens if they need to call 911! I’m looking forward to reading more in this series!

Book Blurb:

Tops in his Paramedic Academy training…

…didn’t prepare him for Station U.

What was more dangerous, the supernaturals or his boss?

Dean needed to learn street medicine fast. He’d trained to help humans, but he wasn’t prepared for injured fairies and monsters. Still, he was smart, willing to learn, and more than anything, incredibly curious to learn about this whole new world he didn’t know existed.

Would it get him killed?

She’d been at this job a while and was less than enthused to be given a new probie. There was always a lot going on, but Brynne has something on her mind. What happened to her old partner?

In the dark of night…

…a society few humans know, thrives.

And someone wants to bring them down.

You’ll love this supernatural medical thriller, because the fast-paced life of an EMT is better in the world of vampires and mythical creatures..

The premise is interesting and different from any other sci-fi fantasy that I've read lately. So good idea. Typical plot - young hero plunged into a new world he didn't know existed. All fine. But for me the book falls short in two areas: it reads more like an EMT textbook that a novel. Way too much information on drugs and procedures. Too little on the characters, their personalities, motivations and plot. And second, I hate cliff hangers! I don't need everything resolved by the end of the book, but don't drop a major plot twist on the last two pages, expecting I'll buy the next book in the series to find out what happened. If the story is strong, and I like the characters I'll buy the next one. If not, I won't. A cliff hanger ending just irritates the reader.

For the most part I liked this book. It has an original and interesting premise and a take on "Unusual" people that I found appealing. The characters are adequately developed, even if Dean seems to some readers to be excessively uncertain. If I had found out suddenly and shockingly that the entire world was different from what I had always believed, I might well be somewhat unsure myself. I also liked the information provided about Emergency Medical Care and the roles of Paramedics and their work in Ambulance Services. I enjoy books that teach me something new while simultaneously entertaining me. And this work succeeded on both levels. Given all of the above, I might have given the book Four Stars, had it not been for the ending.
I should not even call it an ending. This novel does not conclude; it merely stops. Yes, one secret is revealed at the end of the book, but I found that a completely inadequate ending. As a result the entire book reads as Part One of a larger novel, rather than as a story complete in itself. Nothing at all is resolved here, and I very much resent feeling that I must buy the rest of the series to find out anything that results.

The switch in main character from the prequel threw me a bit I will admit. Trying to see all the "weird" from a masculine view of the newest member of the paramedic team was really interesting. The blurb sets up the story perfectly.
Follow along as Dean learns he is not "superman" when something goes wrong. The concepts of emergency personnel needing emotional support for trauma is just now being recognized. It is about time. The author handled this delicate subject with a clear view and honesty that was refreshing. Yes there is a mystery running through the story. I found the interactions of the characters to be adult and realistic.

Did I like the book? Yep, bought the next 2 books. Found myself another really cool author.

Interesting tale but there are some holes in the story. Dane has some problems and contacts his old supervisor for Help. Hes told hes at a convention out of town. But hes actually a part of a Terrorist group. That trying to recruit him. So why send an unknown person to recruit him instead of the guy he already trust. That's a hole. Also if James is such a good guy and why is it ok he's willing to mess with his partner's memory. And why doesn't she care he believes it's so easy. Hes already proven hes going to break his word to her because she doesn't matter. Hes proven his word only matters to other supernaturals. Humans aren't worth him keeping his promise. In the end the book is worth reading but don't expect a masterpiece.

Read the sample chapter for book 2. The book does a 180 on you in book 1 his partner tell him tostay away from supernatural love interested. Now she like go for it it worth it. Shows that james has already reprogrammed her. Or the author changed his mind about were the story should go.
