So that was my month. How was yours? I’ve made it through Thanksgiving surrounded by friends. We’ve all made sure to get our vaccinations, boosters, and flu shots. If you are choosing to not be vaccinated, at least do everything you can to protect others. Whether that is by wearing a mask, getting a test the day before, or something else, think of your family and loved ones before yourself.

See you in December!

Claimed by the Cyborgs (Interstellar Brides® Program: The Colony Book 9)

Return to the Colony!

In an all new Interstellar Brides Program book, Ms. Goodwin returns us to the Colony. A new Prillon pair of Warriors is here with more than a few problems leftover from their time in the hands of the Hive. Unfortunately, there wasn’t as much that the skilled doctors could do to remove the implants on these two. And for the first time, the Hive has involved the Prillon Mating Collars!

Book Blurb:

Two honorable warriors with nothing left to lose…until they find her.

Prillon warrior Thomar Arcas is the royal heir to his ancestor’s legacy of dishonor, betrayal and death. When he was captured by the Hive, some on his home world cheered. Some sighed with relief. None shed a tear.

Thomar and his second, Varin, break free and destroy an enemy base, barely escaping with their lives. They transport to The Colony, the last refuge for contaminated males. Upon arrival they suffer in agony, their cyborg implants fighting for control of the powerful warriors.

Defeat is not in their blood. Not in their history. Not in their souls. Unable to sever their ties to the Hive integrations, they suffer relentless pain. Unwilling to force others to suffer, Thomar has chosen an honorable death over further disgrace; until they are matched to a human female from Earth who will do anything, and sacrifice anyone, to save them

Danika was in prison when she decided to join the bride program. Paired with two Prillon Warriors, she is ecstatic to finally have people to call her own.
She is surprised, however, when the two warriors try to deny her. Thomar and Varin have been outcast amongst the Prillon, for actions taken centuries ago.
Operated on and augmented by the hive, their implants causing great pain, they are sure that Danika would be better with someone else.
Danika knows that they are perfect for her, however, and never let it be said that a human woman would give up that easily…

This was a very moving addition to the series. Danika herself is wounded by her own past, and it makes her perfect for members of the colony.
Both Thomar and Varin are typical Prillon, honourable and protective, qualities that make them perfect for Danika.
That being said, it is what we hear about the Hive in this book that really makes a difference; a significant piece of information and it is such a small part of the story!

As with every Interstellar Brides book, you can expect plenty of romance and sexy-times, along with some cameo appearances by heroines and heroes of previous books. The annoying Dr. Helion has to stick his oar in too, and of course the hive are active.

Although the romance itself is a standalone romance, this is part of the Interstellar Brides series, and needs to be read as part of it as some significant information is given in those earlier books that readers need for context and understanding.

An enjoyable sci-fi romance for genre fans, and an important addition to the Interstellar Brides for fans of the series.

I am not going to lie; this book broke my little Grinch heart. Thomar and Varin have escaped the hive, but they haven’t escaped their torment or torture. Although they are no longer prisoners of the hive, they are prisoners all the same…

Danika is a prisoner too… and now she is looking for something she has never had. Freedom, love, protection… SAFETY and so she decides to do something about her circumstances, and she joins the Interstellar Brides program.

This book… good heavens, Thomar and Varin INSTANTLY won my heart. They are both honorable protectors that have been dealt a terrible hand in life. Danika is tough, and she exudes an undeniable strength. I am so darn happy to be back in with the Interstellar Brides! I have missed these warriors! But the warriors from the colony will always have a special place in my heart.

Claimed by the Cyborgs is a well-written page-turner with characters you can't help but fall in love with and a universe you can't help but fantasize about. I am a big believer that more is better... which is why two Prillion fighters are always better than one!

A MUST-READ ROMANCE and all the recommendations from me!

Another heart-wrenching Colony story. If you haven't read any of these stories - The Colony is where the Coalition Hive war veterans with Hive integrations have been exiled.

This Prillon pair have suffered greatly at the hands of the Hive, as they were in Hive hands for two years. And just when Thomar is ready to do a major sacrifice for Varin, they are informed that their matched bride is in transit to The Colony. Enter Danika, one of our criminal brides (for those that don't know - criminals are given the chance to volunteer for the Interstellar Brides program to commute their sentences). Danika is looking for something she has not had since she was 8 years old - safety and security and she is willing to fight for it.

I loved that this story was more about the fallout from Thomar and Varin's captivity and the ongoing Hive experiments. I really loved that we got more information on the Hive reasoning and actions - the main twist was hinted at in previous books. I cannot wait to see were the twist is heading especially after the major reveal from the Nexus.

There are some smexy scenes for those that require them but i skipped over them to get to the action.

I am all for the story and found this edition to the series - fantastic with great reveals.

I love how this couple came together. Watching them was so satisfying. The couple are well written, you can almost see parts of yourself in them. The story continued easily from the first book. Now, I can will be on pins and needles until the final one comes out!

Fire Maidens: Scotland by Anna Lowe

Wonderful Second Chance romance with a sexy dragon Shifter. The descriptions of the places are everything we’ve come to expect from Ms. Lowe.

Don’t be surprised if you find yourself needing to refresh your memory with this one. So many of our favorite couples make an appearance in this one. It really makes it enjoyable to see the continuity from one story to the next.

Geek Bearing Gifts by Milly Taiden

Mrs Wilder is fantastic as a matchmaker. The world building is something you have to read to believe. There’s humor and romance a plenty in this delightful story. What appeals to me is the leads to the next story. Which, by the way, I can’t wait to read!

It’s Been One of “Those” Weeks!

I spent most of last week without my car. When you get to be my age, that can be an absolute pain in the rear. Let me give you a little background though.

This past January I received a coupon for an oil change from AAA. One of their Car Care Plus centers is near my house. Our car needed an oil change so we took it there. While they were changing the oil, they also checked such things as the fluids, the brakes, and so forth.

The front brakes were fine, but the back brakes would need to be changed before long. It took a month or two, but in April we had the work done. Unfortunately this time as they were doing the complimentary checks, they noticed an oil leak. My husband insisted that it wasn’t anything that needed work on immediately and we took the car home.

Maybe we should have had the work done then, I don’t know. A week ago while driving home from the store, we heard a noise but couldn’t see where it came from. The next day I had a warning light come on to “Service Battery Charging System.” That was my second clue. Two days later the car was dead on it’s axles at the house.

Ted, our carpenter friend, came up to help with it. We checked the battery, we charged the battery, nothing. Using a battery charger/starter, we got it started. The light was still on! Then Ted noticed that the Serpentine belt was missing. That being broken was the noise we heard!

So I called AAA Roadside Assistance and had the car towed up to the Car Care center. Late that day, I got a call back with the bad news. The belt had broken because that little oil leak my husband dismissed had been leaking onto the belt. Once the belt became saturated, it broke. They would need to clean the engine in order to find the source of the leak. We needed the car fixed so we reluctantly agreed to this.

Mid afternoon the next day we got the news. They’d found the source of the leak, but they were going to have to remove several things in order to reach that gasket. It would take replacing the timing cover and seal, the front oil seal, the oil pan gasket and a complete oil change to fix it. Ouch!

It was Friday afternoon before I was able to pick my car back up. That little oil leak in April lead to a $1600 dollar repair in June. The biggest single item on the bill was the labor. The good news is that since the Car Care Plus center is own and operated by AAA, the repairs are guaranteed.

Cooper's Hawk

Remember this guy? This is a Cooper’s Hawk. He lives in the area where I live. Recently, I started looking on the Internet and discovered some interesting facts about this hawk.

IDENTIFYING CHARACTERISTICS:

Medium-sized hawk from 14 to 20 inches in length. The adults have a gray/blue back, the underside is white, horizontally streaked with rufous bars. The head has a black cap, and there are three black bands on the tail. Males and females look the same, but the female is about one-third larger than the male. The immature birds are brown above and vertically streaked with brown below. The adult’s eye color is orange to red, while the immature has a yellow eye.

HABITAT:

A forest-dwelling bird found in deciduous woodlands but also seen in urban areas. Not uncommon around farm woodlots.

NESTING:

Cooper’s hawks build a stick nest high in the middle of a deciduous tree, usually in the crotch, where they lay two to five eggs. Cooper’s hawks are known to return to the same area to nest year after year, although recent studies have shown that individual birds change mates and nest sites frequently in succeeding years.

FEEDING HABITS:

Known as a predator of birds, the Cooper’s hawk also feeds on mammals, particularly squirrels and chipmunks. Once known as a regular denizen of poultry yards, it is one of many “chicken hawks.”

CONSERVATION STATUS:

Populations of the Cooper’s hawk were thought to be declining as early as the 1930s. This species has suffered greatly from persecution due to its poultry eating habits. It has also suffered from habitat destruction.

A week or so ago, I had another close encounter with this delightful fellow. He was perched on something as I left the bike trail with Coco. He flew up into one of the Palm trees where I snapped this picture.

He absolutely blends in to the tree!

Just as good as the last. But I want more. I wish there was a better update on the Colony. I feel like they are still struggling to get brides. It would be great if one of the brides came up with a calendar idea. Also since there is no guarantee of a Bachelor Beast finding his mate, it would be cool to have three beasts on the show at once. So there would be a possibility of one successful match, but if there was more....it would be a hat trick. I liked Bachelor Beast, it was more out of the box than what has been done in the past. I like that she doesn't leave any questions left unanswered when the book is finished. Can't for the next installment.

Grace Goodwin, you are AMAZING!!!!

I totally love this book from beginning to end! So much action, suspense, romance, hot sizzling sex, and LOVE!!!!

I never tire of reading Grace Goodwin's books and every book, as different as it is, will always manage to get you hooked reading it straight through. There is no break or stopping for breaks as it just pulls you in and before you know it, you are hooked. You will never be able to pull away from the Interstellar Bride's Series story until you finish reading her books to the end (or better yet; finish reading the end of the Bonus Content).

I love ALL of Grace Goodwin's books. With that being said, this book right away pulled me in with the shocking twist in the beginning of the book. From there, I knew I was going to spend my day reading and thinking about this book.

You just can't help but get so immersed with the plot and storyline of this book that you can't help but feel that you are living and experiencing everything that is going on with the characters but mainly the main character of Zara.

I won't say much at all about the story as I feel I would be giving away quite a bit but I would definitely encourage you to read this book as there is so much going on with Zara and her way of survival as well as dealing with Isaac and the forces of Cerberus.

Seriously? Why isn't any one of Grace Goodwin's books picked up by the that of Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video or any other movie network or agency? In all her books, there is an ongoing war between the Hive (similar to the Borg in Star Trek but totally different) and the Coalition ( which is made up of an alliance of different planets with different Aliens and/Species- which some are soooo pleasing to the eyes of the mind here) as well as characters that we all can relate to which makes them unforgettable. Then add action, romance, suspense, drama, mystery, hot sizzling sex and LOVE, (yes I said that before but wanted to mention this again) and you truly have an experience that takes you to a level of fulfilment as well as that to the matters of the heart!❤️ It truly does and I am always wanting more after reading one of Grace Goodwin's books. I mean that too.

I really hope that one day I am able to see of one or more of Grace Goodwin's stories (mainly that of the Interstellar Bride's Series) becomes a movie or series. I would truly love to see that as Grace Goodwin is truly an amazing great writer. Once a month, I know that I will always be transported to a new or familiar planet for a few hours ( which is one of my favorite times for that month). I will always be wishing and waiting for Grace Goodwin's books to come to life either on the big screen (movie theaters). or the little screen (TV) but either way I will be here waiting for the next Grace Goodwin story next month while still reveling in the aftermath of reading Rebel Mate. It's that good!!! A hearty toast as always to one of the best writers always, Grace Goodwin!!! 🍷🥂🍹

Every time I read the next book in any of this author's series, I think this is the best I've read so far until she publishes another book and then it is the best. This author always writes books with sexy times, action, possessive alien men and love. Zara is such a strong human female who encounters a horrible murder within minutes of her transporting to her Trion mate. She is shocked and worse realizes the murderer is giving her as a slave to a monster. Fortunately Isaak happened by at the auction block and helped her escape from the slavers along with the help of her trusty titan stick. They still have to fight before they get their sexy happily ever after.

Space Pirate meets Interstellar Bride candidate, in this suspenseful tale of murder, lies, spies, and of course a hot dominant alien. Zara has been sent to Trion to meet her mate. She has had a rough life, she was poor, lived on the streets and fight for everything she had. She’s a scrappy one that Zara. Isaak has been a Space Pirate for 4 years, since he left Trion for good. He had a falling out with his family and has been fighting the hive and dealing with scourge of the galaxy. That is until he hears rumors that there is a human female about to be turned over to the EVIL Cerberos. Ooohhh I hope Cerberos get’s what is coming to him!

This book took me through twists and turns, it took me through some incredibly steamy times too! Whew, Isaak is one heck of dominant alien who expects all women to be submissive...lololololol, how do think things will go when he meets a woman who is a fighter? Yep, this is going to be good! I enjoyed the story, though there was just a tad to much (he won’t want me after, she won’t give into me and trust) for my personal taste, but I also get where the characters would feel that way based on their life experiences.

I think my favorite part of the book was the ending, when everything came together, and it all just clicked. Isaak and his past, Zara and her desires, the spies and lies, and the storyline....it was a fabulous ending! If you like you like hot alien pirates.... you will love Isaak. If you like a strong, independent woman that can stand on her own two feet...even if a big ole alien is picking her up...you will love Zara. If you like a good revenge story...you will like this book! I don’t think I will ever tire of the Interstellar Brides and look forward to the next book!

Even after 20+ books in this series, the stories are still unique, sexy, romantic and full of drama and adventure. Grace Goodwin does a fantastic job of making the characters seem so realistic that you can’t help but immerse yourself into the story and cheer for their happily ever after.

The world building is vivid, the danger is stark and sometimes unsettling, and the whole story is so engaging you can’t put the book down until the end (and then you just can’t wait for the next book!). Although each story is an erotic romance, you always get a sort of life lesson, or food for thought which might apply to you. In this book, it is about letting go of the past, and learning to trust others. Or not. This book can also just be a very enjoyable and entertaining break from reality. I just can’t recommend the Interstellar Brides series enough, or any of Grace Goodwin’s stories actually.

Zara Novak is a spunky, feisty, fighter who has had a rough life growing up and surviving on the streets. It’s time to start over with a new and better life, so she signs up to be an interstellar bride. She is matched to someone on Trion and her new mate Naron is murdered right in front of her! She is saved from being auctioned by Isaak, but someone is still after her. He takes her aboard his spacecraft to escape from those who want to take her captive again. But the scrappy little human would not hesitate to fight by his side to take down the bad guys. She is not what he would have expected in a female.

This author has been one of my favorites for eons! I could always count on her for a fantastic book. But like with many of the sci-fi authors lately, I see a direction I totally dislike. I positively do not like discipline, punishment, or spanking themes, feeling they are completely inappropriate as relates to adults. For me at least, it adds absolutely nothing of value to the story, turns my stomach, and disappoints me in my reading enjoyment. I am not a prude, but this for me is OTT and ruins an excellent story. Please, stop adding kinky nonsense that is just plain nasty. I lost all respect for both characters with the dominant/submissive tug-of-war. The whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth. When you want someone to just love you, you don’t need a punishing “Master” to tell you how you will obey or else the punishment will begin! That’s not love!

The Rebel and the Rogue (Interstellar Brides® Program Book 19)

Zenos, from the Astra Legion of Rogue 5, is on a mission to find an antidote to the deadly venom flowing through his body.  Without the antidote, one bite during mating will kill a hybrid Forsian’s chosen female. Zenos must acquire the serum at any cost, for like his Atlan cousins, his mating instinct will eventually consume him. The last thing he needs is a distraction, but one look at the defiant female bounty hunter and he can’t deny his body what she’s offering—a few wild hours of pleasure.

Ivy Birkeland’s entire ReCon unit was annihilated as a result of Quell, a mind-altering drug the pirates of Rogue 5 are known to distribute. A rebel to her core, her heart still broke when she was forced to walk away from her life as a Coalition fighter. Now she hunts a bounty that will allow her to catch the criminals selling Quell and avenge her dead friends. Free of the Coalition Fleet’s strict regulations, she makes a deal with an unknown Rogue 5 operative to gain access to his home planet and travels to Transport Station Zenith to meet him.

When Ivy’s smoking hot, one-night-stand turns out to be her Rogue 5 contact, every carefully-laid plan she’s made goes to hell. Because when a rebel and a rogue are forced to work together, sparks will fly. They don’t need the criminals to kill them, they just might finish each other…if they don’t fall in love first.

This novel was well written and edited, with no typos or wrong word choices that this reader caught. This novel had many action and adventure elements, and the world building and characterization were both very good. The heroine, especially, was a vibrant individual. The romance between hero and heroine developed naturally, though their relationship development was fairly simple because the external conflict, or stakes, in this novel were so high. This novel had low to medium levels of angst, or internal conflict. That tends to be my preferred narrative structure in romance novels, so I enjoyed it. This novel ends on a fairly satisfying HEA, or Happy Ever After. I recommend this novel to fans of sci-fi or paranormal romance.

GIRL POWER!! Demos and Ivy kick some serious A$$ together! But in true Grace Goodwin form, it's still the girl who's tougher, which I love. 'The Rebel and the Rogue' has a little more of an edge than most of the books in the Interstellar Brides universe, but you won't mind the bite. You will be drawn in to the struggle, as each of these characters fights for survival, and realizes that maybe, if they can make it through this battle, that there might finally be something more for them than just surviving. They might just have found something to live for, instead of just something they are willing to die for.
However. There are some reasons why this book falls just short of its 5th star. First off though, THESE ISSUES DO NOT make this book one to skip over in my estimation!!!! This is still a really good story! But there are some speed bumps on this road. So, on to a description of those speed bumps: There is no explanation given on why every single member of this unit but one would go into battle under the influence of the drug Quell. It just doesn't mesh with what we have come to expect from a human special ops recon unit in the war against the Hive. All of the human characters we have met in this series who serve in these units have been seasoned veterans of Earth militaries before ever entering the war in space, meaning that the likelihood of an entire unit of special ops soldiers becoming drug addicts out of control enough to risk going into battle high...just doesn't make sense. And it definitely doesn't reflect well on the characters and strength of human soldiers, which is the opposite of the image that the author has built of these characters over the span of this entire lengthy series. There isn't any explanation of the affects of the drug or the time it generally takes for an abuser to reach this level of self destruction. And how and why, if every other member of her unit fell victim to this dangerous drug, did Ivy somehow escape this same fate? Finally, there is also no explanation of how Ivy obtained the antidote she uses to bargain her way into Rogue 5. This is somewhat less of an issue to the integrity of the narrative than the Quell questions are in my opinion, but I was still left scratching my head over it. Honestly, I'm hoping for a small revision and update of this book. It seems like these plot holes could be fairly simply fixed without having to change much in the story overall, so I'm crossing my fingers. Because of this, I want to make it clear again, This book is still very much worth purchasing and reading! Just go into it knowing that there are a couple of unresolved issues.

This story brings us some awesome characters in Zenos of the Astra Legion of Rogue 5 and Ivy Birkeland.

Ivy, a human, has walked away from the Coalition Fleet’s regulations to become a bounty hunter seeking revenge against the aliens responsible for the death of her entire ReCon unit. They were provided with Quell, a mind-altering drug distributed by the pirates of Rogue 5, and no one survived. Ivy will not stop until she has seen justice served and the death of her unit avenged. She has no desire for any sort of commitment to a male, but she still makes time for a wildly passionate one-night stand with a stranger to take care of her needs.

Zenos, a hybrid Forsian, is on a mission to obtain a serum, the antidote to make sure a female survives the mating bite from his poisonous fangs. In the same way that the mating instinct affects the Atlans, Zenos knows his own mating instinct will soon control him and he needs to be prepared with the serum. Although he cannot mate until that serum is in his possession, when he meets the kicka$$ bounty hunter, he won't deny his body the one-time experience of a few hours of pleasure she is offering him without commitment.

As always, this author gives us the very best stories, bringing the reader back again and again to read about the various aliens we are so familiar with! The story line is fast-paced and exciting as Zenos and Ivy let their passions overtake them, only to meet each other again unexpectedly at Transport Station Zenith when she attempts to gain access to the “unknown operative’s” home planet. How will their overwhelming attraction impact her plans for revenge? They need each other – can either walk away? Grab your copy and immerse yourself in a fantastic experience you won’t want to miss as the author places us in the amazing universe she has created!

Even though I tested as a Trion bride, I love Rogue 5 stories the best! The notion of Leagues and their honor appeal to me.

Ivy was a Coalition fighter who turned bounty hunter after her team was massacred. She is hunting the one who set them up to die for vengeance.

Zenos is part of Astra League and is assigned to escort and protect Ivy on her journey into Cerebus’ territory. But he doesn’t know the secrets she holds.

This is a really good story in the Rogue 5 series, and I look forward to more of them!

The ups and downs of diets!

The original concept behind the word “diet” is simply “the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats.” A secondary definition includes the concept of restriction to obtain a desired outcome i.e., loosing weight. Remember that!

After my husband’s scare with an infection in his leg, I kept tabs on how swollen his leg looked to be. Somehow, it never seemed to go down any significant amount. So I asked his Primary Care doctor the last time we saw him.

He ended up reading us the riot act. The problem, it seemed, was the amount of sodium in our diet. To be perfectly honest, I didn’t think we were that bad off. I don’t use a lot of salt when I cook, we don’t eat processed food that much. So to say I was perplexed is being mild! Then I looked a little deeper at the problem.

The problem isn’t “salt,” it’s “sodium!” A lot of the foods we routinely eat have sodium in them that we don’t expect. I was surprised to find that almost all seafood has more than 300mg of sodium in it, even fresh!

In the near future, I’m planning a full post on the hidden sodium that we don’t expect to find. At the same time, I’ll give you some of the alternatives that I am finding to get around the sodium. Your food doesn’t have to be bland to be low sodium or sodium free!
