This is a good set of companion stories to the Wayward Mates series. I think these novellas were more enjoyable after having read the series.
These novellas definitely had the same feel of the Wayward Mates series. I appreciated being given more detail about some of the history that was briefly mentioned in the original series.
On another note, I could see a someone new to the series reading this collection to see if they were interested in reading the series.

Little did I know my search for stolen art would become a complication for the boss of the Valhalla Syndicate. A complication he has decided to keep.
I knew who he was when I met him at a fundraising event. Anders Jensen, is the boss of Norway’s most powerful criminal organization, the Valhalla Syndicate. He heard I was hired to find a painting stolen by the Nazis. He has offered to fund my expedition in exchange for one of the other looted paintings he wants for his personal collection.
Accepting his offer has drawn me into a web of intrigue and danger. When a sniper’s bullet nearly ends my life, I find myself in Anders’ embrace and under his protection.
Then he showed me his secret… Now I’ll never get away.
Complication is a fated mates provocative paranormal romance.

Dee 5.0 out of 5 stars Keeping His Mate Safe Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2022 This is the second book in the Syndicate Masters: Northern Lights series each book reads as a standalone yet connected but you do not need to read the first in the series to understand this one, each book has a sexy as all get out shifter and their mate. Buckle up this is a wild ride, dangerous men, alpha personified, possessive, oh, so gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a deliciously story 😊. There will be suspense, betrayal, expeditions for lost paintings, secrets reveled, violence, hope, forgiveness, and maybe love.
Once you start this book just like the one before it you won’t stop even when you have things to do so by the time you’ve figured out who is who and what is what, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter!
Can’t say I didn’t warn you. Gabriella smart, strong, self-sufficient, an historian/attorney so she knows the legal way of doing things, they do not submit to anyone other than their mate (sometimes not even then 😊 depending how they are feeling) and she didn’t apologize for her human flaws in fact she demanded that you accept her just as she is flaws and all. Gabriella is on the hunt for a specific painting a priceless piece that was stolen by the Nazis during World War two (I learned a few things I didn’t know about the WWII) and when she is contacted by a man, she pays it very little attention. Anders sexy as all get out boss of the Valhalla Syndicate who usually gets who/what he wants when he wants them/it, knowing his mate is the beautiful historian(he has kept a very close eye on her of course without her knowledge) he has to have her by any means necessary, so if that means getting her to work for him (basically trapping her to himself) just to be around her he thought would be enough but no it wasn’t she defies him at every turn, spankings don’t mean much to her when she has her own agenda but they are a lot of fun (in true Delta James fashion all her females are strong willed, defiant but love just as hard) just the right one for Anders she won’t take his none of his mess. So, when he approaches her about finding a treasure, she isn’t impressed in fact she doesn’t even like him or she keeps telling herself because the attraction was off the charts from the moment they met. Gabriella agrees to help him find his treasure, but he wants to go along with her which she isn’t agreeing to until someone takes a shot at her sister barely missing her and in steps Anders who strong arms (shhhh persuade them) into the Sabu Stronghold as guest who aren’t allowed to leave under the name of protection (of course he has an ulterior motive -his mate ) getting her right where he wants/needs her and of course she isn’t too happy in fact she is so upset with him and she doesn’t mince her words on letting him know either. But going after the painting is her goal so when he shifts showing himself to be a snow leopard she escapes to continue her mission of finding the painting but there is danger someone do not want her to find the painting and will do everything in their power to stop her but Anders isn’t going to allow anything to happen to his mate and she will feel his displeasure in leaving his protection but will they find out who wants her dead, will she find the painting, will he find the treasure he was after, will she submit to being his mate, will he give her reason to want to be his mate, will he keep her safe through the twists & turns, and will they find happiness along the way?.

JWV 4.0 out of 5 stars I would recommend reading the books in this series in the correct order Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2022 Verified Purchase I really am enjoying this series as usual with Delta James books -great characters, fun plots with humor and snarkiness decorating it from the start of the book. BUT, I gave this book only four stars because I got really bored and was starting to lose interest in the plot in the middle of the book. I really enjoyed the main characters and decided not to stop reading this book. I love history and Art so the sub plot looking for stolen Art from the Nazi plunder from WW11 was fascinating because of all my previous research. I would definitely recommend this series also because I love animals. Once again Delta James books are great!
I did not believe it when they said you can hear the sword sing … I should have. My life changed forever the day I acquired the sword.
Gillian Telling anyone you are a dragon shifter is difficult, telling your lover – nearly impossible. I have been hiding for years after escaping my origin clan and their plans for me. When the first dragon showed up I thought I had been found. But now that he is dead, I hoped he never had the chance to tell anyone where I was living. I was wrong.
Ford Gillian was everything I could ever want from a woman. I knew she was meant to be mine, now I just need to convince her. I feel like she is keeping something important from me.
The odds are not in our favor – four humans against a whole clan of dragons.
Can we save Gillian when she is taken by her origin clan, even with the swords?

Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2022
I would strongly encourage anyone reading the Masters of Valor series to read the Prophecy prequel, which sets up this series. It will help the reader understand the four main male characters, Gabriel Watson, Tristan Crawford, Bennet Greyson, Ford Montgomery, and the magical swords, Courechouse, Clarent, Arondight, and Caliburn. I would also say that because these books are told in chronological order, you should read them as such.
The third book will focus on two main characters, Ford Montgomery and Gillian Millhouse. She is the owner and operator of the Page and Quill B&B; Ford is a construction contractor. These two have danced all around their feelings for one another. She is sassy, a former Marine, and carrying a deep secret.
The story’s plot will have more about how Ford acquired the fine sword, Caliburn, and include scenes of how he must use it to defeat dragons. It also continues from the previous story, where a fire has damaged Gillian’s B&B, and she, along with Ford, are staying at White Falcon Manor, the home of Anne and Gabe. A big part of the story will involve the newfound relationship between Ford and Gilly and throw in a murder, dragons, and secrets.
“You have to believe, my friend. The world is full of unbelievable things if you just open your eyes to it.”
The story has the good, the bad, and the evil in the world. Eventually, the truth about Gillian being a dragon shifter will be revealed. She has been in hiding for years, going into the Marines when her Alpha father has arranged a union with Darius. After a nightmare of her capture and the destruction she inflicted upon the enemy, she was ready to separate from the military. Still, she refused to return to the west coast and her origin clan. She wandered until she found Rackham’s Roost, met Faith Goody, and decided to settle, making a peaceful life. But that peace was destroyed by Wyvern, Richard Davenport, and Sheriff Larsen. Will Gillian need to leave and find a new safe location? What will happen when her closest friends, and now a man she has feelings for find out what she is?
I love the fast-paced, action-packed, mystery-suspense supernatural story. With each story, more details come to light. It is far from over, and what will happen when Anne learns about Gillian? Will they all blame her for an invasion of dragons? Or will they be willing to join her in fighting against them? I love the chemistry between Ford and Gillian together when they finally stop fighting their feelings and embrace them instead.
“Some women dream of being rescued from a tower. You slayed an actual dragon for me.”
ltfrombc 5.0 out of 5 stars Dragon Shifters! Mystery! And Romance! Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2022 I thought this book would be a good one after how the previous book - Deception - ended. I loved this story so much. Gillian and Ford are meant to be together...even though it takes some time to get there. Unbeknownst to all Gillian's friends, she is a dragon shifter and the experience with dragons has not been good for the 4 warriors and their mates as they settle in their new community. But as most anyone knows, you cannot hide secrets such as this for too long before they are found out. By the time Ford does find out about Gillian it may be too late. This is a a very suspenseful story that began in the very first book and it grew along with the mystery. The connection between Ford and Gillian is quick to grow and a love like theirs is soon at risk. But there was a reason Ford and his friends have their swords. It was meant to be. It was a very good book. I enjoyed it a lot. I hope to here how they are doing in future books of this series (much like the author has done in previous ones) They are the best. So while you are sad to see the story end, you get updates on them in other books. Well worth reading! But I strongly recommend you read the previous books in the series first as each book builds upon the previous one. So good.

Gillian Millhouse , a purebred drakaina, and decorated Marine, has found the perfect place to heal from her traumatic experiences at the hands of insurgents. She has found peace and comfort in building up her business, the Page and Quill B&B, in Rackham’s Roost. None of her friends know she is a dragon shifter and although very attracted to Ford, she is very concerned that he will reject her when he discovers she is a drakaina. To add to her stress, she believes that her clan of origin has discovered where she is and will force her to return to Crater Lake, Oregon to fulfill her responsibilities as a mate to the Alpha.
The ongoing mystery of the whereabouts of Blackburn’s treasure as well as the unsavoury plot behind Wyvern’s and Davenport partnership is finally resolved. A dramatic and impressive ending to the series.

Denise DeCrescito (From In Here) 5.0 out of 5 stars A fast-paced start to a great new series Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2022 Verified Purchase “Fate has a way of leading us to where she wants us to be.”
Once again, author Delta James gives us a story that combines elements of romance, fantasy, real history, creative history, action, adventure, and just the right amount of spice to make a perfectly delicious book. “Illusion” is the first book in the ‘Masters of Valor’ series, which is a spin-off series from the ‘Masters of the Savoy’ series. There is a prequel called “Prophecy” which sets up this series, but this book is so well written that I think you can follow everything even if you haven’t yet had the pleasure of reading the prequel.
“Illusion” begins in New York, where Cynthia ‘Goody’ Goodson is a successful pastry chef. She arrives home early one night and discovers her boyfriend in a situation that explodes everything she thought they had together. She’s still a member of a lifestyle club although she hasn’t been there in a long time because her boyfriend wasn’t into it. She calls to ask if she can book a room there for a few nights and a session with a Dominant so she can clear her mind. Sometime later, a death in the family has Goody relocating to North Carolina to settle her beloved grandmother’s estate, which includes a bakery that’s been in the family for generations.
Tristan Crawford is a renowned treasure hunter of lost ships. He happens to be at his lifestyle club in New York when asked to scene with a blindfolded submissive. They have an amazing session together, then he’s interrupted by an emergency call from a friend and abruptly leaves. He’s happily surprised to meet her again in North Carolina, and excited that the unusually perfect chemistry between them is as powerful as it was in New York City. Tristan and Goody have a second chance at love in this romance with strong paranormal elements, and they make the most of it.
This is a fast-paced, action-packed story that kept me involved from the first paragraph to the last. The main characters are compelling, and I really wanted them to get their happy ever after. Also there are BDSM elements in the book, Tristan comes across as particularly sensitive and romantic, not hard-edged. The villains are horrible, and their treachery runs deep. There are a lot of characters in the book but it never gets confusing, and as a reader you’re aware that most are characters that will be recurring in the series. As usual with books by this author, I’m very much looking forward to the next story!

It will help the reader understand the four main male characters, Gabriel Watson, Tristan Crawford, Bennet Greyson, Ford Montgomery, and the magical swords, Courechouse, Clarent, Arondight, and Caliburn.
Masters of Valor is a spin-off series from the Masters of the Savoy series where present—history—and paranormal collide. In that series, Gabriel ‘Gabe’ Watson, head of security at the Savoy, will meet Anne Boelyn, who has escaped the veil and her prison between light and dark at the Tower of London. The following stories will share how Tristan, Bennet, and Ford find their swords and how they use them to fight evil.
This story begins in New York, where Cynthia ‘Goody’ Goodson is a highly sought-after pastry chef known for her baking. She will come home early, catch her live-in boyfriend cheating on her, and learn their years together as a couple was a farce. As a Midnight Caller BDSM club member, she will go there for the night and ask for a session with a Dom—while she remains blindfolded. The night is one for the books—but he gets a phone call and must leave. Several months later, her grandmother dies, and she must go home to Rackham’s Roost at the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It is time to return to her roots, and Goodson’s Bakery is renamed Goody’s Goodies.
“Fate has a way of leading us to where she wants us to be.”
Tristan Crawford comes from old money, but his family considers him the black sheep, except when he makes news as a famous treasure hunter of lost ships. He will be in New York and at Midnight Caller when asked to scene with a mystery submissive who chooses to be blindfolded. They have an incredible scene—and he plans on enjoying her more until he gets a call for help from one of his friends and must leave. What a surprise to come to the Outer Banks and meet up with his mystery lady. The story will share how Tristan finds his treasures and makes his fortune, leading him to the second sword, Clarent, the Sword of Blood Peace—the sword that slew King Arthur.
I love the fast-paced, action-packed, mystery-suspense supernatural story. What isn’t to love, two strangers, one magical night, months later, reconnection, and the erotic chemistry are as strong if not stronger than their one night at Midnight Caller. Tristan and Goody are the yin to the others yang. Throw in several critical people, a few troublemakers, and an evil dragon! You have the good, the bad, and the ugly all collide.
“He was insane; he was obsessed; he was hers.”
Tristan: Cynthia Goodson, love of my life, holder of my heart and soul, the only woman I ever wanted to sail off into the sunset with, will you marry me? Sweet thing? I’m waiting. Goody: You don’t really think I’d turn down my very own knight in shining armor, now do you? Tristan: The appropriate answer is yes. Goody: Then if that’s what you need to hear, yes, yes, a thousand times yes. I would rather slay dragons with you than own and operate a five-star Michelin restaurant.
“It was as if each supplied the missing piece to the other that had always been missing.”

Sara B. VINE VOICE 3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but just not my favorite Delta James book. Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2022 The 4th book in the Syndicate Masters has a storyline that grabs you attention and keeps it until they very end of the book.
Both main characters have strong personalities, Braden is a very dominant alpha who when he sees what he wants, he makes sure he claims it.
Braden gradually sweeps Carys off her feet and she is later installed in his castle, and treated as if she is Mistress of his clan. Their passionate relationship blows up when Carys sees something she shouldn’t have seen and that Braden had kept secret. But she doesn’t give him the chance to explain or ask him any questions - she just runs and hides from him for years.
Due to not being open, Braden loses his fated mate for nearly 5 years. They get a second chance when Braden pulls an very alpha move that changes the dynamic of their relationship that may cost him what he really wants. Actions have consequences and Braden doesn’t realize his actions aren’t justified because those actions made him feel better. He seems to have not learned his lesson on keeping secrets from Carys and almost loses her again.
The story is compelling and the characters are engaging on the surface, but I just don’t connect with a book when authors separate a couple over miscommunication or secrets, and especially when the separation extends for several years! I’d rather the characters have a blow up fight, then cool off and discuss what’s going on or what they thought happened vs reality - ya know, actually be adults instead of running away.
My frustration with the extended separation increases when the female is presumed or said not to have any relationships while apart, and then alternatively, the male waits a short time before he just has to give in to his uncontrollable sexual urges and have sex with other women.
In this case, and in my opinion, him thinking about the love of his life while using someone else for a sexual release just boils my blood and makes it even worse. To outright use one woman while claiming another is the love of your life is just BS and demeaning. Just no. This also really does nothing to propel the storyline along, it just detracts from the sexiness of the male character
I found it almost impossible to find Braden to be a romantic or loving male. Yes, Carys ran away from Braden, but his actions and intentionally keeping secrets is what put her in the position to freak out and run. I feel he is doubly wrong and then how he reclaims her just is a step too far. As much as I wanted to like this alpha male, he just pushed too many of my buttons. Carys’ actions are also frustrating and hit some of my hit buttons.
The majority of books I’ve read by Delta James are easily solid 5-stars reads. My opinion on this book only being a 3-star is my opinion and I’ve spelled out what upset me, but this is my opinion because you may have an entirely different tolerance for those plot points.

Rhonda Hicks VINE VOICE 5.0 out of 5 stars engaging to say the least Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2022 'The Understanding' is the fourth book in Delta James' "Syndicate Masters" series. I have to admit this one had a more dramatic, adventurous feel to it. Perhaps a bit more drama. Braden, the Alpha of the Smilodon Sabretooth Clan, often referred to as the Beast of Penarth has known Carys is his fated mate but doesn't actually meet her until the day of her mother's funeral when he attends to pay his respects. For some reason that causes her mother's extended family to become rude and hostile towards the man. But as time progresses Braden maneuvers himself to be at the coffee shop where Carys goes and they wind up seeing each other. There are several miscommunications between these two and because both have such strong personalities it plays havoc on the D/s relationship Branden is trying to cultivate with Carys. Twists and turns in the story, along with a plot for murder, keep it engaging to say the least. Of course, it's a Delta James paranormal fated-mate relationship so you know the chemistry is off the chart. I was thrilled when they finally got their happy ending and then the guests showed up and we have a whole new scenario playing out. I can't wait to see where Ms. James takes us on this one
Great ending to the series! With this story, Ms. James brings to a close the wonderful series, Masters of the Savoy. We’ve been on quite a journey with these couples. This story is more stand-alone than the others although the h does work at the Savoy. Our H is once again a paranormal creature, and not one that we see often in many shifter stories. There are hints in there of things that I personally hope are to come, but only time will tell!

In a newly released online game, she has teamed up with the mysterious Holden Tremayne to defeat the malevolent protagonist of the game. They seem to be the perfect partners. After all, Holden only plays after the sun goes down.
What happens when the online world tries to push through the Veil to perpetuate its evil in the real world? They say my kind keeps the evil spirits at bay… but what if I’m one of them
Welcome to the opulent world of the Masters of the Savoy, where the men and women might be a little different – more than human. The men appeared out of nowhere one day determined to grab life and look for love. But watch out … you never know what darkness lurks in the shadows.
Denise DeCrescito (From In Here) 5.0 out of 5 stars Gargoyles, Gamers, and Great Passion - Oh My! Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2022 Verified Purchase “Release” is the 6th and final book in the ‘Masters of the Savoy’ series by Delta James. This book is a wonderfully creative blend of the paranormal, myths, legends, lore, history, curses, geocaching, a posh hotel and an elegant BDSM club. You can read and enjoy it as a standalone story, but you will get additional entertainment from it if you’re familiar with the books that came before.
Mazie is an expert in electronic surveillance and related matters. She uses her considerable skills in her job with the security office at the Savoy Hotel. In addition to her work, Mazie is a skilled player and an online geocaching game. At the time this story takes place, she is participating in a real-life version with teammates she’s never before met in person. Before he and his wife leave the country, the man who hired her gives her a sponsorship and guest pass to an exclusive lifestyle club in London.
Holden is a mysterious man with serious computer skills of his own. When he meets Mazie at the club he’s immediately attracted to her and intrigued by her as well. He’s a man of many secrets – some of them otherworldly. Once he gets involved with Mazie by being her Dom at the club, Holden is even more convinced that there is really a deeper connection between them. Did I mention he was already aware of her before he met her at the club? Not specifically. But that is one of his “many secrets” that I did mention he has.
Because this is a romance novel, you expect there will be some type of happy, satisfying conclusion. The story is so interesting and intense though, you might just forget that and be seriously worried about how it could possibly end well. Enjoy the author’s creativity, the chemistry between Mazie and Holden, the serious moments and the lighthearted ones as well. Be warned that after you read this, you may never look at architecture the same way again!

Now, Gabe and Anne have emigrated to America, and before they did, they gifted Mazie with a guest pass and sponsorship to Baker Street if she decides to pursue a D/s lifestyle. Mazie has another sideline, playing an online game, Castle Reign, which she is a top player known as Knight Fury. She has formed an alliance, Phantom Guild, with three other players, Rook, Bishop, and Silent Knight, to join forces and compete in a real-life quest with a half-million US dollars prize.
Holden Treymane is centuries old, a foolish, entitled young man that one dalliance with a young maiden eventually led to her witch sister placing a curse upon him. Holden is an immortal, a man by night and a cursedborn gargoyle by day—frozen in a stone sarcophagus until the sunset. He has evolved over the centuries, and his technical abilities have allowed him to invest and make fortunes. Playing as Silent Knight in Castle Reign has allowed him to get to know several other top players.
“You who dimmed the light that shone. Shall be forever cast in stone. To watch by day and live by night. Your cursed life can only be undone. When your devotion to the Light has begun.”
“Holden often thought that becoming a gargoyle had made him a better man.”
The story’s plot will have a little history of how Holden was cursed by a witch centuries ago. It will bring them to the present-day, where he is also a Dom at Baker Street and will be introduced to Maize Bridges, a new sub. But, she is no mystery to Holden, who knows her also as Knight Fury in the online game Castle Reign. The chemistry between Holden and Maize is instant, and their scenes are an erotic dance in dominance and submission.
Holden: I’ll have to remember you like it dark. Maize: I’ll take it any way you want to serve it.
Now, he has a new dilemma, the Phantom Guild is to meet in person—and he isn’t ready to reveal himself to Maize as one of the players. The story has the mystery of Holden avoiding the other players meeting him because he is concerned about how Maize will react now that they are involved at Baker Street. But, things will take a nasty turn when one of four is murdered. Now, Scotland Yard is involved, and the two females, Rook and Knight Fury are sequestered at the Savoy. As the story unfolds, there may be hope for Holden to escape the curse by Saoirse. The story has several moments of life and death danger and proves her trust that she will submit to Holden to save her even when Maize feels betrayed.
Saoirse: You know, there are those who say immortality would be a blessing. Holden: They are wrong. To watch those you love grow old and die is no blessing. I’ve come to believe that the sweetest thing in the world would be to grow old alongside the woman I love and to die holding each other as we pass from this life to the next. Saoirse: I that it that’s what you would like to do with Maize. Holden: I would ask no more of this life than that.
The final story has matters of life and death due to greedy players who are willing to kill top players in Castle Reign to win. A strict, take control Dominant, some punishments, and sizzling hot explicit sex scenes. Throw in nasty gargoyles, a take-charge witch, and a strong submissive who finds the Dominant who is her love and Master—and the coveted happily ever after ending.
“He loved watching her enjoy what had become mundane to him. Mazie made everything right—bright, shiny, and new.”
The story continues with Zak and Trinity as the stars. Trinity is working as a diver and ocean biologist with an emphasis on Sharks when she meets Zak. Zak, well, we all know what Zak’s main job is! As a couple, the steam is hot and hotter! Another HFN.
It was only supposed to be a brief liaison. One blistering visceral connection.

She wasn’t falling for him. Trinity didn’t need a man. But this time, she had to wonder, Had she bitten off more than she could chew?

Only he has the power; he would command and she would cede. They are also working at cross purposes. He wants Trinity to prove her loyalty before he opens up to her and share he’s feelings while Trinity is waiting for him t show her some affection and caring so that she can trust him. I'm not a fan of sharks but that said............this series has me hooked. I love shifters of all kinds and honestly, never really gave shark shifters a thought but when two of my favorite authors come up with this idea and start writing it, I can't help but give in, settle down and enjoy the ride that is Masters of the Deep! I loved Mason and Shiloh in the first book but Zak and Trinity in this one is off the charts hot!! If you don't like rough sex, kinky sex and a dominant alpha shifter, well, you're missing a really good story. You can feel the sexual tension between the characters so that means I couldn't put the book down. There is a running theme throughout each book so far and I have a feeling we won't get ALL the answers until the last book but hey, that's what awesome writers do. Do I want the answers? Yes! Will I read each book to get the answers? Of course! These two ladies have outdone themselves with this series and I'm sitting here eagerly waiting for the next book!!!

Delta has once again woven a genuine legend of London into her story line. Corinne comes from a long line of Protectors that stretches back to King Aurther’s time. Eddy is the last of Sage Matthew characters to make the leap to leave the Veil. Now, can the two of them work together to defeat the demon?
The Reluctant Retiree
There is a legend that when the Big Ben chimes thirteen times, the lions in Trafalgar Square will come alive to roam the City of London.
Corinne Adler, Night Concierge for the famed Savoy Hotel, knows just how wrong that legend is for each time Big Ben has struck thirteen, demons have tried to escape their prison in another realm. The responsibility of being Guardian of the Tower Clock has fallen to her, a duty which her family has served for almost two centuries.
Eddy Chastain is the last of the reoccurring characters in the erotic romance novels written by Sage Matthews. He is a hacker extraordinaire and prefers to remain deep within the pages of Sage’s books. But there is something about the Night Concierge of the Savoy that haunts him… a memory of sorts from a man whose creator never gave him much of a backstory.
When the stars align to cause Big Ben to strike thirteen, Corinne knows she and the lions must defeat the demons and keep the city safe. But the veil has become strained and the demons more clever. Can Eddy come to Corinne’s aid and keep the forces of evil at bay? ~~~ Welcome to the opulent world of the Masters of the Savoy, where the men and women might be a little different – more than human. The men appeared out of nowhere one day determined to grab life and look for love. But watch out … you never know what darkness lurks in the shadows.

Again, the group who used to be characters in Erotic Romance writer Sage's novels with the help of their entirely normal loves have to meet another challenge. In this case Corrine, an employee of the Savoy, who was actually from a line of matriarchs dating back to King Arthur's time, was tasked with protecting London when the demons rose after Big Ben chimed 13 times...interesting and compelling read.

I had been waiting for Eddy's turn at having a story. This book was so entertaining. I can't figure out if it was a shorter read, or if I read it too fast. It didn't seem to me like Eddy and Corinne got to spend as much time together as some of the other couples.
From the very beginning, Bound captured all of my interest. Eddy behind the Veil kept me on the edge of my seat. Corinne spending time and getting to know the other ladies was fun.
The history, the mythology, suspense, danger, and excitement all proved to be quite the rollercoaster ride. It all seemed so fast paced, and then we reached the battle.
I did like Eddy and Corinne as a couple, but I wished there had been more time devoted to them getting to know one another. The back and forth dance the couples usually do makes for some of the enjoyable parts of this series. I was not ready for this book to end. I am going with 4.5 stars.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
5.0 out of 5 stars THE RESPONSIBILITY NOW FALLS TO YOU. ARE YOU READY?

Ms. Delta James has penned a unique and page-turning series of paranormal events and characters intersect with myth and historical events. The story will have people from the previous books, but this one will mainly focus on Corinne Alder, Night Concierge at the Savoy, and Eddy Chastain, the hacker in Sage’s books. Once again, one of her characters will pierce the Veil and join the rest of them on Earth. The story is the fifth in the series, and while it could be read as a stand-alone, it would be better understood by reading the first three books in the series.
Corinne Alder has moved to London and, against her parent’s wishes, has reacquainted herself with her Aunt Peggy. When her Aunt’s caregiver called and said she was near the end, Corinne will rush over, and her Aunt had many important things to tell her—but is this delusional babble, or is what her Aunt telling her the truth?
“I have been given this gift of a period of lucidity before my end. You must listen to me. You must believe me. Promise me, Corinne. Promise me you will believe me and will continue studying with Holcroft. I swear to you, the stories, our family’s lineage, and legacy are true. You must pick up the sword and answer if destiny calls on you.”
“You are looking at Storm Shadow. She has been passed down through the female line of our family since the time of King Arthur. It is said that Merlin imbued the bow with the power of light and that it can defeat the darkness. The arrows have been made by the same family of fletchers since the Normans invaded England. Pick it up. Galatine has accepted you. Galatine is the sister sword of Excalibur. Each time the gateway into this world has started to crack, a woman from our family has acted as Sentinel and has called for the lions at the base of Nelson’s statue in Trafalgar. The Sentinel’s job is to keep the demons at bay and force any who try to make their way into this world back through the portal until it re-seals itself. The entryway will only be open for thirteen minutes and then it will close again. Swear to me you will answer the summons should it ever come.”
The story will involve several things, the death of Corinne’s Aunt and her inheriting historical weapons and a warning of what was to come. It will have Eddy realizing that something big is ready to happen, and Saoirse agrees. Eddy will need to pierce the Veil, the last main character in Sage’s books. Corinne has had many changes in her life; she is still working as a night concierge, has just finished her schooling for a doctorate, and accepts a part-time position at the National Gallery. After losing her Aunt and moving to Rachel’s flat, the most significant change will be when she meets Eddy, her favorite character in the Sage Matthew books.
I love how Eddy decides to be upfront with Corinne about each of his friends and how they came into existence, including some of the things they encountered. These two have chemistry, yet they don’t have the time to develop a deeper relationship with evil coming. It becomes a matter of trust, one of the most profound emotions two people can experience.
Holmes: She needs to look at you as her champion-the one guy who can shield her from the darkness—even if you aren’t sure it’s true. She needs you to be sure.
Eddy: In other words, she needs a Dom.
Holmes: No. She needs you to be her Dom.
The story has the good, the bad, and the evil. It will have Eddy leaving the Veil, not because of the others, but because of Corinne. As her protector, he has his role in this, and she quickly acquiesces to him. Someone in London is causing problems, and it is more apparent that Eddy needs to be there for Corinne—but also the group needs to be together. They have made their plans, and now they wait. Will Big Ben chime out thirteen times at midnight? Will Corinne and the others be ready for the demons who want to take control?
Corinne: I don’t want to be a superhero. I don’t want any of it—well, except maybe you. I do want you.
Eddy: You’re frightened and have every right to be. There’s nothing wrong with that. True courage comes when you are afraid and do what needs doing anyway. But you are no longer alone.
Corinne: I’m glad you decided to come through the Veil to join your friends.
Eddy: I didn’t come through the Veil for them. Mostly likely, I would have remained behind the Veil until it was no more. I came through the Veil for you.
“She needed to learn from the first that he would lead, she would follow; he would dominate, and she would submit.”
The story has matters of life and death due to paranormal entities, some violence, a strict, take control Dominant, some punishments, and sizzling hot explicit sex scenes. It does not end on a cliffhanger but gives the reader a satisfying conclusion. I love how Ms. Delta James can take myth, history, and present-day and merge them into a page-turning tale. The final story in the series, Release, will release on March 10th.
If you don’t know by now, you should. I love book series. I started very young when I first stumbled upon The Black Stallion series by Walter Farley. This series ignited my love of books. It also led me to other short book series.
Somewhere along the line, I started reading “The Dragonriders of Pern” series by Anne McCaffrey. Between what Ms. McCaffrey has written, and the ones written by her son, Todd McCaffrey, this series currently stands at 25 books. Ms. McCaffrey has written several other series, but it seems that none of them connect to the others in any way.
Anna Lowe has also written several series, Twin Moon Ranch, Blue Moon Saloon, Aloha Shifters: Jewels of the Heart, Aloha Shifters: Pearls of Desire, and Billionaires and Bodyguards. While characters from one series are mentioned in the next, there is no real interplay between the two. So not exactly what I call “connected.”
So what do I mean by “Connected?”
I’m going to use the books of Delta James as my examples. Her books were what started me on this quest. Ms. James has written a number of series, some of which are obviously connected, others are not so obviously connected.
A prevalent theme throughout her books is the Dominant/submissive (D/s) theme. Keep that in mind during this discussion. There are things and places mentioned in almost all of her books that are tied to other books. This is the type of connection I am talking about.
In the Wayward Mates series, we are introduced to 9 strong-willed she-wolves (women) and the males who love them. I would say “alphas” but Nick from Claiming His Mate isn’t an alpha, he’s the pack Beta. None of these couples embrace the D/s dynamic but Marco DeMedici and the Florence pack own the club, Dante’s, in Florence, Italy. We learn this little fact in “In Vino Veritas“
The next series is “Tangled Vines” and its Prequel, “Corked.” In the prequel is where the brothers, Damien and Linc Steele, buy the small boutique hotel and famed BDSM club, Torch Light” to renovate. Linc and his mate, Grace live a D/s life 24/7. Damian meets his mate in Uncorked with the help of Marco Demedici. As the series continues onward, more couples embrace the D/s dynamic in their lives. We also see them crossing paths and pursuing connections with the alphas from Wayward Mates.
Fated Legacy is a series that introduces us to the adult children of the couples from both Wayward Mates and Tangled Vines. Set 40 years after the two series, the new generation battles an evil force called the “Darkness” thought to have been vanquished by Jean Lafitte, the original alpha of the New Orleans pack. In this series, we are taken to the London club, Baker Street.
Now, I had to check this out and actually ask Ms James, but it turns out that Baker Street is owned by the Cerebus Group from Mercenary Masters! This is actually the first club in the group. You may or may not be surprised to find out that this group are all humans. Nevertheless, the players freely interact in each other’s series.
This club also features prominently in the current series, Masters of the Savoy. As a side note, the opening story, “Advance” has an interesting history. It began life as a story in the 2020 anthology Dirty Daddies. Expanded and rereleased as Best Seller, it was once again re-edited and found its place as the opening story in this paranormal mystery series.
The final set of connections that I’ve traced is to the stories of “Alpha Lords.” This series is set in the post-apocalyptic future and feature the packs of Calon ‘Onest and Ravenscar, among others.
It’s the many connections like these that keep my mind interested and involved with a story. See what connections you can find in your favorite series!
